The weight of the flywheel, regardless of cylinder count, goes a long way towards masking any operator error at the controls.

I would also add, poor/lean carburation/fuel management. Those of us that lived through the 80s are happy to forget the abrupt throttle response of several Japanese bikes of that time.

Lean mixtures, indeed! Lost count of how many tuning kits I installed back then (Factory Pro, Dynojet, Ivan's, etc)
