Zitat von wessie im Beitrag #1 Frankly, the GS is superior just on the wheels alone. The R/RS alloy wheels break way too easy to be good for police use. GS wheels can take more abuse. Ideal for pursuits over things other than smooth pavement. Can't answer for the RT but to say those will be regulated to proper streets. The GS is also more nimble for navigating narrow streets than the RT would be.

Not seen a gendarme for years except in riot gear at the Channel Ports. As for the traffic variety, just like the UK, you are unlikely to see one unless they are involved in some sort of janitorial duty after an accident. Replaced by cameras that are a lot sneakier than the UK ones.

I think it was also an image factor...more concerned about looks over safety. Not that safety gear of the 60's and 70's were much to brag about. Now they take safety of the rider much more seriously in most departments.

Many States have a "no-chase policy" especially if the suspect is on a motorcycle. Mostly they dictate that officers cannot exceed the speed limit in a pursuit, but it is awfully difficult to out-run the radio. |

We've had an epidemic in urban UK of crime perpetrated by youths on stolen, small bikes; often helmetless apparently in the belief that this would make the police less likely to engage in pursuit, resulting in injury to the perp and a possible law suit. However, following a public outcry, at least in London, the police have dramatically changed tactics and have been training up drivers on 'tactical contact'... the effect of this on so-called bike crime was apparently instant and dramatic
