Hi everyone,
I've just updated the Map on my Nav 5 and its saying internal storgae 98% full.
I have an 8gb SD card installed and that's 55% full but what can I do to reduce internal storage?
Looking in explorer on my PC I don't see any really large files taking up the space also in base camp the new map shows on internal storage AND SD card.. is it installed on both??

Sometimes it updates the world maps or a greater area than you need, i just update europe only, you may need to get rid of unwanted files,

Some one on here will tell you how to do it

Interested because I have the same NAV and SD card, but my internal storage is only 88% full (external is on 30%). I only have the default European maps installed (I don't think I have access to any others unless I pay stupid amounts of money - guessing your NAV is the same?)

You can delete the unneeded languages.

If I remember correctly the NAV V only has 8GB of memory which not enough for the o/s, other stuff and European Maps. The NAV VI has 16GB which is more than enough - for now. You could only load certain areas/regions, or store the maps on the storage card.

Do you mean lifetime map updates? Don't they all have this now? I bought my NAV V second-hand a couple of years ago so not entirely sure, but I've never had any bother accessing map updates.

I'd suggest trying a factory reset on your NAV.

Ironically enough, the only trouble I've had in that regard is space on the hard drive of my laptop - Garmin Express refused to download the latest map update until I was able to free up 15 Gb of space on it. Apparently impossible to configure Garmin Express to save the download anywhere else, like a roomy external hard drive. I ended up having to bring forward the purchase of a bigger laptop drive just to keep Garmin sweet.

No mine's a NAV V and has no problem (and I haven't had to do anything nonstandard, such as deleting non-English language stuff)

Never checked Nav V before but it is as follows :-
Device Storage 85% full, 1.07GB free
SD Card Storage 7% full 29.46 GB free
I just 'let it do whatever it does' no rtfm, no extra languages, no extra purchased maps
Can't even work out pre flight maps, routes etc for/from basecamp, just plan each day, one route at a time and go.
Basecamp is a mess and since I updated to my new laptop I have all the old holiday stuff on my old computer
I do have year 2000 here for that date error issue last year but all 2015 to 2018 travel sitting in my cupboard pc graveyard.
Can you even send/drag basecamp data from one laptop to another - I have a transfer suite lead.
Luddite here, still have a paper list for phone numbers in my wallet, might add them to my phone now we have a uk lockdown but unlikely to bother!

You can save anything/everything on the old basecamp (to USB memory stick?) and then import it into the new basecamp, no problem.

For the record, I have a 128 GB card. I load it up with whatever I want including screen shots, old trips, and tracks (and other stuff I download from REVER).

In addition to thoughts from Lee and others above, if you pull up the files on on your internal storage and look in places like GPX and its subfolder, Archive, you might find files for every trip you've ever mad as tracking files. These can be eliminated.

I don't use Basecamp, so I emptied that folder - or you can move it to your memory card.

The GPX files are tiny but I still delete them if I don't plan to use the same route again.
When ours will no longer accept a full map update I'll probably just download the lower 48 and Canada.

One of my old units did not have Mexico maps. It was strange when riding next to the border and seeing a blank screen in that area.
Just in case the world is flat I was careful to not get close to the edge :)
