On my latest log ride (8000 klms), I noticed that the oil temp reading / indication, which usually sits on 83-85 depending on the "outside" temp, was varying up and down in approx one second intervals, ie goes from 79 to 80 to 81 to 82 etc to 85 in one second intervals, sits on 85 for around 2 seconds then back down to 79 in on second intervals .
After a while it seems to settles down and sits on the right temp of around 83 - 85.. This changing in temp indication is also reflected on the Navigator V.

The bike is a 1200RS 2017 model and has around 35,000 klms "on the clock" so far.

A running engine once it reaches operating temp could not generally vary so quickly up and down, so assume it is a "electronic" issue.

Any ideas or similar issues??

Thanks for the replies so far, however my issue is at constant speed, constant ambient temp etc, I still wonder why is does change so quickly, and i mean every second or so goes up one degree through the range i mentioned. Didn't do it until around the two year 30,000klm mark./

My RSs have all fluctuated in indicated temperature, especially when the bike is stationary. I don't think it goes up by 1 degree (C in my case) per second, but it does climb from maybe 92 to 100 and back again in traffic. Once I am on the freeway, or have a stretch of road where I can hold at least 60 kph, it drops. Depending on the day, I don't think it has dropped below 82 to 86.

I think your bike is too young to have any problem with the thermostat, the hoses or the radiator. If it goes up and down and stays under 100 or 101 C dropping down to low 90s, I think it is probably ok.

Sounds like it may be contact resistance - the temperature sender connector could just need breaking and remaking, or use a bit of contact grease

it is normal.
It is the valve opening and closing

Did you change the coolant recently?

Yeah, I'm with folagana. It's the coolant thermostat opening and closing. With the thermostat closed the coolant temp (as read by the coolant temp sensor) rises quite rapidly and then when the thermostat opens it rapidly cools as the cooler coolant flows through.

On a hot day it shouldn't do it after ten or fifteen minutes of riding.

I had the same issue with temp change on constant throttle, mile after mile through sweden back to uk 2017.
Once the bike went through it's cold start procedure - temp goes to 92/93 degrees, thermostat opens - drops reading quickly to 80/79 then settles back to 82/83.
Did not notice this on my 2015 RS (green stain coolant drip hole worrry anyone?) and then once I had seen this on my 2017 (later hidden water overflow, thanks to eu) it bugged me all the way home.
Ocean bmw Plymouth, to their credit checked the bike over and found nothing wrong, no coolant loss, no overheating and no error codes and despite checking often it nevers needs extra water top-up..
Just decided to ignore it now or it doesn't do it so much (12,000miles) and on my second trip back to Norway/Sweden the only time it went above 83 after being warm was heavy traffic in Germany.

Thanks for all the replies. Seems I will have to live with it. I have checked every bit of the cooling system.

I just did the 30,000 klm service with the right tools (ie computer interface etc) and there was no error codes or faults registered in any of the fields, so I am assuming it is "just it:".
Will keep an eye on it but just frustrating, maybe I just don't look at it.

I live in Darwin, so it is quite hot every day, the bike doesn't get overly hot or the fan start up until I stop at traffic lights or parking after a ride, the fan comes on at 100....
