I'd like to make my R1200RS roomier in 3 areas. Looking for suggestions for a taller seat (somewhat stiffer than the BMW seats), moving the bars up and possibly back (or converting to tubular bars), and lowering the pegs (especially kits designed to make the foot controls work well with the lower peg position. THANKS in advance for any suggestions!

Without wanting to create conflict, I too would suggest that you may have bought the wrong bike.

The RS, for me is perfect with a standard layout. If I needed to adjust 'everything' to get it comfortable I'd be looking at an RT not a GS.

Can't help with seat as I have the BMW sport seat (highest one) and that works for me, I have put helibar risers on which also works for me. Others have put the R bars on and can understand that as having ridden the R like the bars.

MV do a lowering pegs but no idea if any good

More modest reductions in peg height can be achieved with the SW-Motech or Rizoma replacement pegs

Ilium has a great bar back/riser for the RS that really does the job.

I asked about 3 areas, but will upgrade them one at a time and see how things go. I looked at the peg lowering options and leaning toward the Suburban-Machinery, as it looks like theirs don't move the pegs outward as much as the others.

As to why I'm going through this rather than just buy an RT or GS... Other than a couple of rider position adjustments, I think the RS is a fantastic machine and just what I want to be riding. Tweaking the control locations on my motorcycles has become pretty typical as I've gotten older. There once was a time when I could toss a leg over just about any bike and be comfy, but these days, a few mods are often necessary. Whatever it takes to keep doing what I want to do and riding what I want to ride is worth it to me.

Hi VT, I’m completely with you on this, I have long legs and an arthritic hip, but love the style of the RS which is so much more engaging to ride than an RT (had one of those earlier). I have the Sports seat (tallest) from new. My first mod was the BMW HP footpegs which allowed me to adjust and lower the pegs. Good improvement but not enough......next I added Illium bar risers, they do allow you to both raise the bars and bring them a little closer to the rider so that straightened up the riding position somewhat, they match in really nicely and don’t look like a modification. Even then I felt the seat height was a little low for longer rides (over 11/2 hours at a stretch) so I bought an Airhawk seat which is a pad that is inflated to add another 1-2cm height. I really like it, its held in place with just 2 straps so can be easily removed when not needed.

So, the RS does work nicely for taller / stiffer riders with a few simple mods and it still looks and feels like an RS not an RT.

I'm seeing the Wunderlich tall seat for $390 directly from the company, and $590 from the U. S. importer. But I'm not seeing an option for shipping to the U.S. at the Wunderlich site in Germany. Does this mean they won't sell direct to people in the U.S., so we have to order from the U.S. site?

I've had Wunderlich refuse to sell to me in the UK from their German website, even though as EU members (at the moment) they are probably supposed to do so, so them refusing to export to the US seems fairly likely.
