Hi.

Yesterday this happened to me for the second time:
All the buttons in the left handlebar stopped working (turning lights, high/low beam, info, etc.). The buttons in the right handlebar worked fine (specially the heaters).
I even stopped and 'rebooted' the bike once (turning ignition off and then on again)... to no avail.
This means I had to commute for more than 16 kmts to work without using my turning lights.
Curious thing is that the problem dissapeared when I drove back home in the afternoon.
And even more curious is the fact that the exact same thing happened to me two years ago in a random commute to work in february with temperatures also around 0ºC.
I ride the bike all days - even with colder conditions - but this has happened twice ... in february :D :D
Has anyone else experieced something like this? When I brought the bike to the dealer two years ago they told me that if it happened again they would replace the whole part under warranty.... but I don't think they'll remember it now :)

Probably the switch cluster, but have you checked that the connectors on the two cables that go into the right side of the cluster are properly seated. If not any strain on these cables due to the bars turning could cause a lost or intermittent connection. Take the little cover off where the cables enter (it just clicks off and on) and give the connectors a gentle push with a suitable small but blunt implement. The small cable and two pin connector is for the heated grip and just pushes in and is held by friction, but the larger cable has a bigger connector which engages with a latch to hold it in place. If this is not fully engaged it should click and lock when you push on it.

Didn't know about faulty clusters until now. I'll keep it in mind when I bring it to the dealer next summer, although being out of warranty is not good.

I thought BMW had the switchgear problem figured out after the recall several years back.
I think it was about 4 years ago we had both left and right switches replaced under a recall on our K1300Ss.
