Cost of mounting new Tire ???

I am curious as to what the cost of mounting and installing a new tire should be. Over the last 20+ years I have always done this on my own, but now that I am sort of old and have noodle fingers, I kinda want to just drop the wheel off for someone else to do it. I made several calls in my area and was quoted a very wide range to do this service. From small indie bike shops to Bike Dealers the cost goes from 45$ to $79 (tax not included) if I bring my wheel and buy tire from them. This is for dismount the old tire, mount new one, balance and disposal of the old tire. If I bring my own tire the cost jump another $20-$25. The local Harley, which is the closest to my house, charged $79 if I buy a tire from them, if I bring my own tire it will be $95 plus taxes. Is Harley becoming the new Aprilia ,...? |

In the UK, we have many outlets that specialise in consumables for vehicles (tyres, exhausts, brakes etc). Some offer full servicing at a fraction of the cost of the franchised dealers. |

I recall when I lived in Texas my fellow riders use to pay $15 to $25 for the service on a loose wheel. Maybe its the northern tax !! I may just have to hang on to my tire spoons and rim protector thingy. I pinched my fingers yesterday taking the tire off the rim with the help of my son as he is much stronger than I am. I think I didnt put enough soap, so when it finally came off my fingers got wedged between the rim and the tires. Ouch |

I have a friend who rode his R12RT into his BMW franchised dealership and asked for two new PR4 tires. He rode out of the shop $650 poorer. My recollection is that my BMW dealer charges $100 to remove and replace a wheel and something like $80 more to change and balance each tire. That is why I always buy tires over the internet, have them shipped to my door and change my own tires. The time it takes me to change couple of tires is about the same time it takes to ride the 40 miles to the shop and back and to wait for another couple of hours (or longer) for the shop to get around to doing the work.

I had 2 experiences at different BMW dealerships where I bought my own tire and loose rear wheel, and they charged me $25 and $40, mounted and balanced with my tire returned.

I don't know if they are still doing it, but the local BMW, mulit-brand dealer would mount and balance the tires you bought from them for free. The kick was, I bought the tires from them, carried my wheels in and found that they would not honor the deal if the wheels were removed! Can't explain that one! Just went ahead and paid the $30 (I think) per wheel.

I've just bought a pair of Roadtec 01's for my F800 and thought the price was pretty good. I've also asked if they do the HW rear for the RS.
