I had my last organised ride of the year yesterday and the RS is about to get brimmed with Sainsbury's E5 ready for the winter. Whether its gets more outings this year will depend on the weather and my mood. So it will go to the back of the garage and I will major on use the F800GT. If I was sure that use of the RS was over I would fill up with Shell/BP E5 but I shall allow myself the luxury of indecision.

I seem to be the reverse of most. The 5 year old R1200RS is my winter hack! Equipped with handguards, Tucano Urbano bar muffs and an SAE co-axial cable for my Keis heated jacket and insoles it will be ridden throughout winter as long as it is not icy. On the other hand, the S1000XR possibly had it's last run of the year yesterday but will remain taxed just in case we continue to have milder weather. At 8-10C yesterday, that was the limit of riding without the muffs as I hate riding in very thick gloves and the heated grips on the XR are not very good.

An RS as a winter hack, shame on you Wessie ! Funnily enough I don’t rate the heated grips on my RS so highly, but then I haven’t got anything to compare with. The only other bike I had with heated grips was an R1150RT whilst living in Singapore, if I accidentally turned this on then my hands went into melt down with even the thinnest gloves. In 34c heat and 95% humidity they were unnecessary to say the least! |

Zitat von Boxerboy im Beitrag #306 the XR is notorious for weak heat in the grips. I think it is the piddly alternator, as they get warmer if you run at motorway speeds and leave it in 4th gear. The RS rarely needs to be on the higher setting, especially with the muffs even when there is frost about. Fortunately, largely working from home means I won't be leaving the office at 5pm to find frost on the saddle very often, if at all.

Apologies to the '68 plate 1200 that was stuck behind me (and another van) in the drizzling rain on the B645 today. No panniers or top-box but the rider was wearing a sizeable ruck-sack! |

Last Saturday (I think) Royal Bournemouth Hospital, imperial blue 1250. In almost exactly the same spot I parked Bumble earlier in the week, while visiting my FIL in one of the several and confusing wards they move old people between so you don’t know who to ring or where to find them. |

The sun must bring them out! Spotted two today. Compton Abbas airfield, and Bradbury Rings. A week earlier I would have been on two wheels as well, but I was taking my FIL out for a drive in his car as he no longer drives. Not all bad though, it’s a DB9! |
