TPS is playing-up on my front wheel, it only seems to work intermittently over the last few weeks, I don’t really mind not having a pressure reading on my GPS but as I got a warning triangle on the main display I had to stop today and reassure myself that the tyre was well inflated. Heading off on a Brittany tour in 2 weeks time and much of the coming 2 weeks I’m on overseas work trips, does anyone have experience of this fault, is it a quick fix for a dealer or ?

Seems too early for TPM battery to die.

Yeah, but reading posts on GS and RT forums that seems to be the likely cause, guess you cant be sure of the age of batteries fitted to a new bike, then again, could the dealer have damaged the sensor when fitting my new tyres in March ? If they did they wont own up and I couldn’t prove it, pity I’m just out of warranty!

I can't see the sensor getting damaged,more like battery on the way out. To be honest I think you'll be ok,just check your tyre pressure every day and you'll be fine.

Had this exact issue on my front wheel few months back. Strangely the problem disappear after some time by itself and it’s working perfectly since then.

Thanks guys, for peace of mind before the tour I’m asking Pidcock’s to take a look at it on Friday. Will let you know the outcome.

Well the TPS was faulty and parts plus labour cost me £170. I still wonder if a battery in the TPS could have been replaced rather than the whole unit, but I couldn’t get a straight answer on that as they had already completed the job.
To their credit they were swift to book me in for this task even though I know they were fully booked.

I had a faulty front TPS on my previous BMW and it was replaced under warranty. Service told me they initially reset the TPMS to see if it would correct but did not so they replaced the sensor.

Comments in that video makes it look like the battery only lasts about 30K-ish miles or +/- 3 years. Odd as we have cars with TPMS that have yet to have a sensor fail.

I have had similar issues and tried replacing the battery, only to find it was an intermittent fault on the sensor, that eventually gave up the ghost.

Tried replacing with chinese sensors which, at best, were worse than the original fault. These too have a habit of having a bad battery upon arriving in the UK, hence another battery change. The video shows him potting the battery in with hot glue. This is fine, until you have to take it out again !!

Gave up and bought a new OEM sensor from BMW, and it worked straight away, and still is working...................there's a moral there !!

If I had to do it again, I'd buy a Shrader TPMS from elsewhere (which is what BMW use anyway)
