I take it relatively easy for the first 50 miles, scrubbing the tires in the twisties without getting aggressive. Also good to remember - a new tire will stretch a bit, so keep your tire pressures at factory spec for that break in period, checking before each ride. The pressure will drop slightly as the tire reacts to having air in it for the first time by expanding a little. |

You can all see that distance is one of the things that should really be worldwide the British imperial unit. Then it would save any confusion as to what people actually mean what with some missing m from km and others putting a k to mean a whole thousand. This would save manufacturers a fortune as a worldwide speedo on vehicles fits anywhere. Also would save confusion as to when vehicles are serviced. Presently BMW are saying 10000km or 6000miles but why should we need to service the bikes 213.7 miles earlier than where metric distances are used? Admittedley in the UK the suspension should actually be checked at probably 1000 miles due to the absolutey shitty potholed roads but on the other-hand we struggle to actually travel at a speed that will ever wear out an engine even if the thing was never filled with oil in the first place |

Honestly, I know some guys just get some coarse sandpaper (or an orbital buffer with sandpaper) and lightly scuff the new tires to break through any coatings left behind from manufacturing. My RS4's don't seem to need a break in period. I take it easy on them for the first 50 miles or so, then with each twistie, a little more lean until the chicken strip is close to the sidewall. |
