I have noted, when the "Shift Cam" activates, a certain clunky sound/feeling. I'm sure this device is meant to be an advancement in motorcycle technology, but frankly I find it annoying. Maybe it's just my bike?

Also, on deceleration I sometimes get a "herky-jerky" motion, which I attribute to the drive shaft. Chain drives, such as that on my former RR, don't seem to do this. Am I correct...it's an artifact of shaft drive?

Mine makes no clunks or herky-jerky motions. If this was happening a lot, I am sure we would hear about it. Take it to the dealer.

It'll be due for the 6,000-mile service soon, I'll discuss it with them then. Bike runs great, no problem, but sometimes I can hear/feel the shiftcam operating when accelerating out of first gear. The jerky motion on deceleration may be due to the way I closed the throttle when it happens...if I shut it with a smooth motion, no unusual motion. I suspect it's fine...just much different than my recent RR.

this was my first bike both bmw and anything with shiftcam, recently did the 6000 mile service too
never experienced anything such as you describe - it gives it a boost and second surge at 4k+ rpm

and no 'jerks' on decel related to shaft drive either, or anything different in behavior compared to my previous chain bikes

Year-round riding enthusiast i.e. seasonal motorcycle popsicle.

Yeah, and Kirk usually replied something like..."Give 'er all ya got, Scotty". And, hey...if the bike is "fucked" as you say (it isn't, but for the sake of argument), it's under warranty. Maybe it'll fail completely (not) and I can buy the new 1300 or 1350 or 1400 or 1450cc latest "thing" and pick up 4 or 5 horsepower. That'll show those squidly crotch rocket kids!
