Strange one this afternoon. First time using the bike in 9 days, started it up, ran for a second then cut out. A bit surprised is that has never happened on any BMW I have owned. Restarted it and it stayed alive but sounded a bit on the edge of cutting out. Once revs up and on the move it was fine. And restarting from warm was OK as well. Any thoughts why this could be? I had washed it thoroughly when I returned from a trip 9 days ago, wonder if water got in somewhere it shouldn't have. |

Zitat von Becksy im Beitrag #1 The simplest explanation is usually the correct one. When you said you washed it, I thought..."Hmmm, this is mighty coincidental". Did you run it after washing? When I wash mine, I usually take it for a short 2-3 mile ride to let the engine heat dry out any remaining water. |

I posted the above last year when my engine cut out, suspected it was due to recent washing. |

Restarting means that crap has to be cleared from the system. Internal combustion indigestion is my diagnosis.

That problem has always happened to my 2016 R1200RS (built in May 2015) during the summer months when the summer smog gas had arrived at the gas stations in California and you would need a second tap on the starter button to get it going. But the bike always started right up when cold during the winter. Maybe your state has started refining CA smog gas, too?

Zitat von Richard230 im Beitrag #5 he's in the UK. We have winter & summer diesel but I don't think there is a summer petrol. We do have a lot of claimed variation in additive packages. One variable not yet mentioned is filling up at a pump where they have recently had a delivery. This can stir up the crud at the bottom of the bunker.

It was a bit rough at start up today, but started and was ok once running. Did wonder about fuel. I usually put Super in it. As a result I accidentally put super in the Ford focus the other day which seems to be doing fine. |

This happened again yesterday, difference this time was I was about an hour into a ride and on the move. Leaving a village, I was accelerating going up through the gears on a straight downhill stretch and on a gear change it cut out. I coasted a bit, put it in neutral, and then as I was slowing right up, tried starting it and it started and was fine for the rest of the day. |

Might try some fuel stabilizer (Startron) when you fill up (do it with fuel level low in tank so it mixes well with the new fuel you pump in). Can't hurt, and might do some good, overall. I love that stuff: |
