Exhausts and Engine » Akropovic - baffle in >= baffle out?

Hi all,
I've just picked up a new to me 17 plate r1200rs. It has the akropovic fitted to it, and the previous owner had removed the baffle. on acceleration through the rev range there are defeinitely a number of flat spots where the torque drops then surges back.

I didnt get the baffle to put back into the exhaust, and having a look they are an eye watering amount of money to buy! luckily my track bike has an akrapovic exhaust that has a baffle the same size, with a couple of adjustments to the mounting hole i managed to get it fitted. Out for a test ride and the bike pulled like an absolute train in the low to mid range. flattened off a touch at the top (not that I care) but definitely felt much strong off the throttle.

I liked the noise the unbaffled exhaust made, however it definitely runs better with one in.

anyone else had any experience of this? does the ECU on this bike have a learning trim feature that might need resetting?

I removed the baffle soon after the can was fitted in 2015. I remember fighting the spot welded securing screw.

After a few years I tried and failed to refit the baffle, because the securing screw access hole in the outer carbon casing was at the wrong angle and no spanner could align the screw in the hole. The baffle wasn't an easy fit either. It now has a flat spot where the Molegrips were used to get it in and out.

This summer I tackled the problem and enlarged the access hole as I wanted to try riding with the baffle fitted. Then the screw lined up.

I convinced myself I was giving my old ears an easier ride on my Euro trip, but I have not noticed any change in "performance".

The bike continues to provide "adequate performance".

just an update. the bike feels very 'lean' with the akra with no baffle, almost feels like the TC is holding the bike back.
fitted the baffle, that lean surging is reduced at low to mid rpm, still feels off had higher rpm.

last night I pinched my dads stock exhuast from his 2015 and fitted that. All surging and lean feeling gone, the bike pulls like a train everywhere. a wall of torque by comparison.

so that raises 2 questions:

1. how the hell does no one else have this problem?
2. what do i do now? option 1 would be to obtain a stock can and sell the Akra, option 2 would be to risk getting the bike remapped and hope it sorts it.

Or obtain another make of can and sell the Akra?

I dont understand how everybody has these akras and its only my bike that runs like a bag of crap with it on.

any of you guys removed the baffle from the back? mine has been removed and lost by the previous owner.

picked a stock end can up from ebay for 35 quid. cheaper than a 500 quid remap

Ive booked in for a hilltop remap at the end of November. Hopefully that will be the end of it.

In the meantime I have order a load of 57mm stainless tube, 35mm stainless tube, and some stainless sheet steel, and I am going to experiment with making a baffle with adjustable back pressure.

Does anyone have a picture of the akrapovic baffle for the 1200?

I'm going to make something similar instead of paying 80 quid for one.
