After replacing the fork seals my left fork is still leaking, when doing the seals I found a stone chip in the chrome on the inside of the slider just where it runs through the seal, so I've found a used slider on Ebay and it's on its way, pain in the butt on a 2 year old bike but but can't blame BMW for it

Kind of makes you want to put rubber gaiters on your fork tubes, doesn't it?

If you don't want to or haven't the time replace the fork stanchion, a repair for a small stone chip is to clean out the blemish with brake cleaner and fill it with super glue. |

The mechanic replaced the seal on the left side only (I think) and did something on the right (don't know what) but since then there is NO evidence of any oil smear on the stanchion. So much so that I initially wondered if all the oil had leaked out and I had no oil in both forks!  That was more than 20k miles ago. Did you have anything done … I see that you say it "still" does this suggesting that you might have had it serviced and it was still doing it …?

I mentioned "still" because some have suggested it might be packout grease that will go away eventually or that forks are still breaking-in. I'm going to drop mine in soon to replace the rusty saddle rails and will have them look at the forks as well. |

I also have a leak from the left fork. Initially BMW said it may be grease, which is sometimes packed between seal and dust scrapper, similar to Boxter's comment Zitat von boxter im Beitrag #4 There is a bit of a mystery here. Why is it only packed with grease sometimes and if it is recommended by BMW to pack with grease, why isn't it on the maintenance routine to repack with grease at regular intervals. I think that the grease packing routine maybe a wrong thinking idea to mask a leaking seal. If a seal is leaking it will quickly pass the grease because the fork oil will be at a much higher pressure. My fork seal leak became excessive and BMW agreed to replace the seal. However after a few hundred miles it is again showing signs of leakage.

Mine finally failed on both sides. You can see fork oil pooling up on the bottom of the wheel. Caliper is soaked in oil too. |
