I thought this might be of interest to some, FWIW.

I found this useful because one does not need to fumble taking a glove off to start the app on the phone.
Yes, I know that the Connected app runs and records the ride in the background anyway, but if you mount your phone either in a ConnectedRide cradle or above the TFT, it's a completely automatic way to open the app.

It works with my iPhone13 (iOS 16) and R1250RS/ConnectedRide cradle. It should work with earlier versions of iOS too. Won't work with non TFT/Bluetooth bikes of course.
I see no reason why it should not work even if you don't have a ConnectedRide cradle, but in that case, you would have no wonder wheel control of the app which is nice.

In a nutshell:
You need to enable the Driving focus on the phone when it connects to Car Bluetooth.
You then need to create a personal Automation in the iOS Shortcuts app, using the Driving Focus as a trigger to start the ConnectedRide app.
It's really quite simple to do if you are moderately inclined to fiddle.
A slight downside is that the Connected app will also run when you connect to Bluetooth in your car with the phone, but no big deal there, at least for me.

I'm not familiar with Android, but they must have something similar.

Great idea! Thanks for sharing.

Gives me another idea, using same principle: have it launch my riding gps app (Scenic) when it connects to my Sena or Garmin XT via BT. I may chose to do Garmin because it turns off at stops and I tend to leave my Sena on for short stops.

I already use shortcuts to switch to the right Bluetooth audio so this is another good one. Thx!

The problem with triggering an automation to run an app when connecting to a specific BT device, is that iOS then requires a manual confirmation in order to run, i.e., a finger press on the phone screen. Kind of defeats the object of an "automation". Not possible anyway if you have gloves on. The method I used above is entirely automatic, no annoying confirmation required.
