RE: Ear Protection - 2

Finally settled on the type called Mack's Ear Care Original Soft Foam Earplugs on a popular on-line shopping site.
I've had ear infections before but these were induced by continuous and repeated rinsing in the pursuit of watersports, not from occasional ear plug use. An ear wax blockage can be cleared with gentle detergent and warm water of the type readily available when you shower. But usually ear wax does a good job of protecting your lug-oles and you should avoid messing around with it unless there's a specific problem.

Just received two sets of the Earpeace MotoPro Max (24 SNR). They're well designed but noisier than the much cheaper Howard Leight Max-1 foam plugs. To be honest, I don't think my hearing is dangerously limited with the foam plugs. If I need to talk to someone, I'll pull them out. On the other hand, rhe Earpeace plugs may be better if you're pulled over so you don't have to yank out earplugs in order to have a conversation with a police officer.

The noise reduction of the Howard Leight plugs is about the same as closing the windows on your car. Since, I've safety driven with the windows rolled-up for many decades, I'm going to stay with the 33 NRR foam jobs.

Yep, I've come to the same conclusion. I'll use the Earpeace for commute riding.

I love my custom plugs. Far better noise reduction than my Leights.

As almost all of us have some high-frequency hearing loss, thought I'd pass along a recommendation from a smart guy, who has thought a lot about motorcycles for more than 50 y - get a hearing evaluation and custom plugs from an audiologist's office.

Don't know if this is covered by the NHS, but here in the states, the cost is picked up (or reduced) by a lot of payers for health care services (formerly "insurance" companies), and if not, can be paid for by health savings accounts.

I wear my apple airpod pros. The noise cancellation is great on the highway, and I can set it to passive in the city (usually keep it on).
I can only use them because I have a Neotec, giving me more space when I put the helmet on (chin bar raised). They still sometimes get pulled out when I take off the helmet. I learned the hard way to look down for storm drains when taking it off. I lost the right earbud down a sewer within a week of purchase.
It's a good solution for me, as I'm usually listening to some sort of media. Even when not listening to podcasts or music, I usually have navigation going via the phone.

I'm no audiologist so correct me if I'm wrong, but noise cancelling earphones like AirPods pros are designed purely for music listening purposes aren't they to make the music listening experience better? Does that noise cancelling actually provide protection for your ears from the noise? i.e. They emit the opposite signal to counter the noise signal, but is that noise signal still there, you just cannot hear it....?
