I was and since I couldn't find any vendor with a wall storage rack for the RS top box I decided to make my own. I ordered a "Luggage Rack - Lower Section" from BMW, part number 2 in the photo: ($30.00 retail price) part number 02: 46 54 8 534 264 LUGGAGE RACK, LOWER SECTION $30.00. I attached it to a length of 2 x 6 which I then screwed into the studs in my wall. Very simple. Really in expensive and only took me about 20 minutes to put together and attach to the wall. Top box then just mounts to the "wall bracket" the same is it does to the back rack on the bike. I didn't dress it up or pretty it up any. It's just functional. I tried to add some pictures of the mount and top box mounted to the wall but it seems I am required to open an account with addPicsdotcom to post any pictures or even attach a file with pictures in them. I don't want to do that since they require I allow them to use my email to market to me and I get enough marketing junk as it is. If you want pictures message me with your email and I'll send them.

Sounds neat.

I’d consider that, but don’t have any wall space free.

So box lives on the bike. Happily under my big cover for winter hibernation.

BTW- I find it easy to add photos directly from PC, phone or tablet. No need for in between third party systems.

Not a bad idea, I must say - having managed to drop mine in the garage the other day, and severely scratched the lid...

In a similar vein, it's always really irritated me how the OEM sidecases won't stand freely on the floor when detached from the bike. (I think someone here produced a wall rack to attach them to, at least while in the garage)?

Yes, that is it. I was shocked at the low price. I thought BMW charged more that that for the air in the tires on delivery of the bike! I'd love to see the panniers wall rack you mentioned if someone has a link to it.

“Patina”!

I’ve got plenty of that on my panniers.

They’ve been kicked, scuffed and one was dropped off the bike while fully loaded, onto concrete one day.

Still working perfectly.

One pannier did let a little water in once after a day of torrential rain.

I’ve no plans to refurb them.

And they live in a high shelf in my garage most of the time.

I bought my panniers off a member of the forum. They were already well patina’d! (Following an ‘incident’ in Norway and a car park fall somewhere else). They work just fine. I was going to wrap them in black carbon fibre. But I actually think the grey looks good on the ‘gorgeous’ Austin Yellow and the patina makes it look like I actually go places. Which of course I never have!

So like spray on mud for your adventure bike, and stick on scratches for your truck, ‘patina’ is considered cool!

First - Hello all, it has been a long time since I have been on the forum. We remain in lockdown in Victoria because of Covid. Shops are closed. Some are allowed to open. Travel was restricted and there were only 5 lawful reasons for you to leave your home.

Times are changing, some freedom will be restored, soon-ish - a month or two more....

In any event. My storage for luggage is to hang the top box from 2 normal hooks on a wall with a strap going through the handle.

The panniers are mounted onto a wooden beam on a wall with the "mushroom" bolts. These cannot be easily removed without a key - but the top box could be carried away. You need the beam to allow the "underhang" of the panniers to line up as they do on the bike and have the correct alignment on the mushroom bolts.

The solution with the frame makes the top box more secure.

As it happens the top box is always on the back of the bike, and while I had it painted to match the RS - Exclusive, the bike looks better without it, but suits my needs best with it. Oh compromises...

Aussie Import, sounds like you sorted the panniers storage well. Innovative method for the top box too. My panniers live on the bike most of the time but if not I like to keep them from harms way as well.
