Electronics » Go pro or another vid camera for the helmet or front of bike?

Looking at GoPro's hero8 black for videotaping and pictures on the upcoming trip.

Are there better video/still shot cameras people have found in lieu of the go pros?

+ and - . I'm open to suggestions before laying out funds on a go pro if people have found something better/more reliable. Would like to use a remote for whatever I get, so if it's attached to the front of the bike, I can command it to on/off; picture or video mode as deemed appropriate.

Not sure I want to mount it on my modular helmet. Any other suggestions from the members using cameras to record rides?

Isnt that a permanent fix safety camera /dashcam ? Bit different to a GoPro which you can take on or off in seconds ?

My ambition is to combine safety with an occasional ability to record a good ride so the auto roll over facility of the Innovv seems like a good idea. Always on via the ignition and I can view via my Mobile and transfer to my PC. And if it detects a collision it auto archives that bit of foootage.

This fits with my requirements precisely and the only reason I don't have an Innov system on my bike is the cost.

I have played with a helmet-mounted camera in the past but gave up on it for many reasons.. . just too much faffing about - it's yet another item to prepare/set up before a ride; the battery's always flat because you forgot to charge it; it makes you look like a total nob wearing it on your helmet; and for me the kicker was having used it on tour in Europe a few years ago, coming home with about 60 Gb of footage which is still languishing in a folder somewhere on my computer waiting for something useful to be done with it. Oh yes, and I was wearing the helmet cam when I had unfortunately had a fairly spectacular unscheduled dismount in the south of France 3 years ago... but I'd forgotten to switch the bloody thing back on after having powered it down to save the battery at the lunch stop....

I built my camera into my crash helmet, with no loss of integrity to the helmet (used an air vent). It's unobtrusive, simply works as it should, and changing the micro sd card is a doddle, two cards per day typically. I increase battery capacity with a small power bank in my top pocket and the cable fits snugly by my neck. No-one even knows it's there.

Best camera I use on my bikes by far. Just a bit of footage and a pic.

Replay HD small camera excellent video. Made a mount out of aluminum that sits on top of gauges for the camera and radar detector.

Anyone have any experience with go pro remote controllers?

I found a windscreen mount that's perfect IMO. Now if I can figure out which remote works best [ other brands beside go pro are available ] I might pull the trigger on getting vid capabilities set up on the bike

My older lad and I played with a Go Pro on a few track sessions in the past.

I just stuck a bracket on the screen (see pic). Wasn’t 100% super steady but avoided seeing bike parts.

It was a bit of fun, but frankly got boring very quickly

Lots of engine noise. Vibration noise.

Have never considered using one long term on the road.

I’m kind of minimalist when travelling. Just a GPS.

No music connection. Phone on Airplane mode.

As above, too much faffing around. And what to do with resulting footage?

I’ve watched riders take forever to get tooled up with all their “connectivity” and get moving.

I recently chatted with a couple of touring chaps, each with a bike loaded with camping gear and a large SLR camera.
Then one said “I’ve got a drone”.

WTF!
