I get why this option would exist on the GS, but on the RS, what situation would call for that?

It depends on the intrusion level which is different on different bikes. For example on my KTM 690s the ABS kicked in well before the bikes starts to stoppie. Some riders may feel that is a problem on the track. I've never found ABS was a problem on my RS especially as it has lean angle sensitive ABS (the KTM didn't).

You never know where you are going to end up..there is no reason you can't take the RS on gravel.

I *think* the option to turn off ABS is going away on the newest bikes.

Stanglely/ coincidentally, my friend was looking at his brothers Mondail 125 on Sunday as he was getting air in the rear brake regularly.
So he bled the brake and shot off to test it. While attempting to lock the rear wheel, the front locked up and spat him off. 🤔
I guess linked brakes aren't that much of a safety benifit. Especially if you don't know you've got them.
Anyway, it nice to be able to turn off Abs if you feel the need.

My KTM 390 Duke is the first motorcycle with ABS that I have owned that allows you to select "supermoto", which turns off the ABS just to the back wheel. I assume that is in case you want to ride off road, perform burnouts or wheelies, or spin donuts on pavement. Definitely not something that I would want to, so I stay out of "supermoto".

I think with ABS off you may be able to "back it in".
Whether or not you want to "back it in" may depend on how much of a riding god you are. Possibly.

ABS is for braking. The MTC (traction control) "OFF" is what will allow you to do smoky burnouts, wheelies, or doughnuts. It's understood they use the same sensors to compare wheels speeds. This may or may not have been the case on my 1290 Super Adventure

Supermoto mode allows "backing it in".

BMW GS Enduro and Enduro Pro modes do basically the same thing. It shuts off the rear ABS when using the rear brake pedal. It also virtually shuts off the traction control. Enduro Pro is specifically designed for knobby tires.
