Can someone explain the logic behind the headlight behavior on US bikes?

I was watching a review on Youtube from a guy in the UK and noticed he had a light button on the left side, next to the hazard button.

On the other hand, my US version does not and if I want to turn on the low beam, I have to flash the high beams first. Then, the low beam stays on. This also means if I flash to pass, my low beam is on, even during the day, until I turn the bike off.

My 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 worked the same way.

That's the logic behind this?

I'm confused. My US model the low beams are always on when the engine is running. The "DRL" only operate alone when the ignition is on before the engine is started?

That said, for DRL the R1250RS is one of the very best regarding visibility. The previous R1200RS with the single line DRL in between headlight was less visible.
So as an european rider, I'm happy with the DRL on my 1250RS.

In this regard, the US is ahead of Europe in safety. Low beams always-on has been a recommended safety feature for decades. For some unknown reason, European countries refused to follow a simple approach and adopted an additional, separate DRL.

I think that the last bike that I had with an on/off light switch was a 97 VFR.

My only beef is how the high beams work. I could have failed my first vehicle inspection because I couldn’t find the switch. Okay, pull in to “flash” and push out to turn on and stay on, but a rocker I could hit with my thumb was what I was used to.

My 1981 Honda CB750F had no head light switch. The low beam was always on. I can't remember the last US bike I saw with a light (on/off) switch.

I know exactly what you mean. I picked the bike up in London one late afternoon and drove the 70 or so miles down to the ferry port to get it home to France. As I left London it was dark and I could not find the high beam at all. Just before I arrived at the ferry port I found that the flasher switch pushed forward for high beam. Strange set up.

Piss poor handover. I had a good tutorial when I took delivery of my 2016 bike.
