Off Topic » Bike Garage Heater ???

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for ideas recommendations and views on fitting a heater in my steel bike shed over winter?

What do you all see as the pro's and cons of this???

Why does the bike need heating? The shed seems to have a system to encourage airflow to reduce condensation. If this system does not work then 80 watts won't help.

I would suggest you need nothing more than an old blanket draped over the bike - ideally use two - one on the bike the other airing. You don't want e.g. a nylon cover. That would tend to hold the moisture in unless very well ventilated.

Once you have insulated the shed as suggested above, one or two of the old tungsten filament 60 w bulbs or similar is a cost effective way of keeping the damp at bay.

Have you considered a Desiccant de-humidifier? Warms the air and dries it out. Works great on a boat so should cope with a garage no problem.

If you carry out all these suggestions, I suggest you put the bike in the house and move into the shed.

If I didn’t live in a first floor flat with a too small lift my bike Would sleep with me every night - my wife might object however 😂

Yes they did that in the UK after the introduction of the motor car. Trouble is that much of the housing stock in the UK is older than the US.
