Seems you lot of serial crashers are a riskier bunch than my fellow XR riders.

I have 2 separate policies, both with the maximum no claim bonus.

My XR insurance has just been taken out for another year with a fresh quote via Quidco compare, and with their cashback will cost me the princely sum of £80! That's for a full year, comprehensive, up to 5000 miles and use in Europe if we get the green light. Broker is Carole Nash Select and underwritten by my favourite insurer, Axa.

The RS is due on 2nd June. So far the best quote using the same comparison tool at Quidco is £106, with same terms. Both quotes include use for commuting.

I hope you are proud of yourselves, you bunch of irresponsible reprobates.

A friend, who happens to ride an XR, has suggested there may be a "coffin dodger" tax due to increased claims from older folk.

Maybe it's because BMW calls the RS a sport bike and the XR a adventure bike.

https://bikerrated.com/bikes/choosing/mo...ce-groups-list/ has the RS in group 14 and the XR in group 16. The ranking only goes up to 17 and is usually based on things like bhp and overall cost.

Underwriters, in the UK at least, use a complex algorithm where the cost of claims, frequency of accidents and theft risk are factored into your personal details of where you live, your age, job and whether you have claims and motoring convictions.

My personal theory, apart from the age thing mentioned above, is that the RS is more likely to be used all year and for commuting. You are probably more likely to have an accident in the middle of winter during rush hour than any other time of year. Slippery roads and low light levels are not a good combination.

Based on anecdotal evidence, I think a lot of S1000XR only get used for leisure use.

My insurance on my 2020 RS is twice the cost of my 2015 K1600GT. Go figure?

My insurance on my RS was just half of my 1250 GS. Not worked that one out yet, at the moment about £340 with 9 years NC

I think the GS is a thief magnet in the UK which is reflected in the insurance premiums. Stolen to be broken for spares in the likes of Eastern Europe & S America if reports in the likes of MCN are to be believed.

Funnily enough, for a relatively low volume seller, there seems to be plenty of RSs in breakers.

I've noticed the same. I can only put it down to how deceptively fast and smooth the bike is, causing ex-riders of high-revving in-line-4 Japanese crotch rockets to f*ck up corners, roundabouts, etc etc.

Just a theory, however.

A couple of things come to mind:
people looking down to see the satnav and then veering off the road or hitting a deer, sheep, pedestrian etc
people looking at their reflection in shop windows then rear ending a vehicle that stops - are lupin bikes more prevalent in the breakers?
