Following (good) advice from Wessie we have now planned an alternative trip for May -
Day 1 Calais - Charleroi via Waterloo
Day 2 Charleroi - Kaiserslauten
Day 3 - Kaiserslauten - Mulhouse
Day 4 Mulhouse - Epernay
Day 5 Epernay to Calais and home
About 200-250 miles per day depending on any detours
Hopefully the weather will be kind and we will get to enjoy the Black Forest, B500, Vosges and Champagne region

Sounds a nice trip - if you do a champagne house tour in Epernay go to the Castellane one. I tried a few, it's the best one and very good value, even the top package with 3 glasses and some chocolates. Last tour starts at 5pm.

If you have some time or a wet day, Mulhouse has the Schlumpf motor museum. Not been myself but it's good I believe.

Hope you've rescheduled and will make your trip soon. I'd recommend you look at staying in Colmar instead of Mulhouse as it's a great little town.

Yes, Colmar was very nice. It was our main stop for 3 nights last year. Vosges mountains and Black Forest across the Rhine are easy to access for day trips.
