Just fitted the Vsys front and rear cameras to my R1200RS. The front cam is fitted to the RHS panel just above the indicator, and considering how loose the panels are, the footage is quite good. I'll look into other location points in due course. The rear cam has limited view, but that's life. The head cam is my reference cam. All are 1080p. The audio is from the Vsys too. R1200RS SE Sport |

Which Vsys model do you have? Your video looks good, and the sound is good too. I also have a dual Vsys unit which I used on my GS and will be installed on my RS when I get it. |

Hi Fred, my other Vsys (fitted on my GS), does exactly what yours does, ie the sound is either full on or full off, and too distorted.

As an aside, I usually put the DVR in a waterproof box under the seat, and yet this still does not mute the sound enough, but on my RS, the box I'd lined up to use was slightly too big for the space and getting the rear seat on. So I've just 3d printed a box for it and will try that shortly. I do need to check how hot/warm the unit gets (if indeed it does!).

OK, thanks for the info Phil. I did try covering the little hole the mic sits behind in an attempt to stop it overloading, but it didn't make much difference. Mine is a similar model, but without LCD screen which is a bit slimmer, so easier to find space for, but the downside is that the smartphone app used to control it does not provide the facility to turn off the captions on the video, so I was thinking of getting a different model with a screen, and I think the one you quoted is one of the ones I was looking at. |

Looks a great package at a reasonable price. How have you powered it? Using the ACC power cable or the Smart power cable? Maybe a dumb question but does anybody know how the smart power cable works being directly connected to the battery but somehow detecting when the bike has been started and stopped? |

Mine is powered by connecting the supplied power adaptor to the battery (fused), and picking up the switched supply from the Hella/DIN plug under the rear seat. The canbus switch-off time delay for this Hella plug is a bit long for my needs (about 50 secs), but it's not the end of the world. I could use the rear lights for about a 7 sec delay.

I believe the Smart Power module senses the increase in voltage when the engine is running (it will go up from 12.x to 14.x) and only when it detects that will it allow battery power to go to the video recorder. Similarly when the engine is switched off the power module will remove power from the video recorder, possibly after a short delay. Some aftermarket heated grips work in the same way which avoids having to have a relay triggered by the ignition. The only issue is that if for any reason these things fail to detect an engine off condition, which is probably unlikely, then there is a danger of flattening the battery. |
