It's an SE. Are you trying to talk yourself out of it?

Dont know what you did but if you spec up a base model to SE spec it's £14800, SE model is 14065, that's exactly what I found when I bought mine, cheaper to go for SE than spec up a base model.

Yeah, my USA RS was fully optioned and just called an RS with the paperwork showing it had the associated option kits (two of them, as I recall) that contained all the items.

Strange - anyway, evidently mine's indeed an SE, which is all fine by me!

(By the way - FYI I am one and the same "Deleted User" who's the OP on this thread... I had a problem accessing my account so the forum admin had to delete it and so I've opened a new one...)

Indeed, the VIN report that I downloaded states my grey/black ‘16 (with the “spoilers” and gold Brembos) is an R1200RS Style 1. So I guess I have a Sport SE!

High sport seat.
Slightly lower (and wider) MV pegs.
Long OEM peg studs removed after grounding on cambered bends on road and track (small screws fitted instead)
Non-standard rear shock with +10mm lift.
I’m only 5’8” in my boots and find it very comfortable on the road without any grounding, but I can (disconcertingly) scuff my right boot on track.

Was a member of the old forum and having stumbled across this new one and registered a few days ago, thought it time to make my first contribution.

For new parts in the UK, you could take look at Nippy Normans at https://www.nippynormans.com/.

I don’t believe it’s possible to visually differentiate between the UK RS, RS Sport and RS Sport SE models if they’re in the same colour, fitted with the same packages and optional equipment (OE) but as stated earlier in this thread, I question why anyone would buy one model then fit the package(s) and OE available to spec it as a higher model when it’s cheaper just to buy the higher model in the first place. I have a 2018 Black Storm Metallic Sport SE which in the UK has black callipers, does not have the ‘special’ centre tank panel and does not have those engine spoilers because black it is not one of the ‘style’ colours. If you buy the base RS model in a ‘style’ colour in the UK, I believe you get the gold callipers and engine spoiler so I suggest having them cannot be taken as an indication of which model you have.

To confirm a model (and as to whether you’re insured), you can check out the insurance database at https://ownvehicle.askmid.com/ noting the Tax/MOT data base at https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ will tell you if you’re taxed and (if required) MOT’d, but unfortunately does not detail the model.

Re riding position ergonomics, check out: http://cycle-ergo.com/ … I’m 5’10” with a 31” inside leg, and on standard seat, standard pegs and standard bars (no risers) and have cracked 350+ miles in a day with no discomfort. Going for the higher (sports) seat may sort out any knee issue, but it will increase forward lean to some degree so to off-set any induced wrist issue, bar risers may also become necessary if you go for that option. Alternatively, foot peg lowering will work if you’re happy with the marginal reduction in ground clearance but would anticipate a need to adjust the gear and rear brake levers to accommodate the lower position of the peg.

Mine ‘clunks’ into first but only when going from neutral when stationary and the bike is warmed up … its only done 1700 miles so may quiet down as the miles build.

Am delighted to report that as of this morning I am no longer a prospective 1200RS owner, but an actual one!
Sadly I have to work today... I can confirm that the time is passing very slowly!

I hope you guys will bear with me when I come back with all my inevitable daft questions in the very near future...

Following on from all the chat about ergonomics, I've realised that my new steed has already got MV risers fitted, along with its low seat. I'm sure the risers will be good for me. Will try some decent ride-outs before deciding on whether I do need the higher seat - Joogles, PM on the way!

In terms of differentiation, bikes with dynamic ESA have gold forks; those with manual suspension have silver forks. I recently picked up a ‘15 R1200RS Sport with everything except the ESA (too firm and felt underdamped on my 3 test rides), GPS prep (don’t need it), cruise control (ditto) or centre stand, which I’m getting fitted in a few weeks as I do use it. It’s in the original Lupin Blue Metallic and white, which looks fantastic in the flesh.
I actually like the self-levelling suspension on the latest GS, even without th selectable “comfort” setting, but ESA felt almost unrideable when I test-rode a Sport SE model - to the point that it put me off until I got one with manual suspension as a loan bike and loved it. I took it out today and it felt great. My new favourite bike!
