I think we can all agree that mounting a camera on the RS can be problematic, unless you use the ridiculously priced mount from Wunderlich, or you have a selection of RAM balls and arms and clamps and what have you...

I spotted mounts on eBay that fit on the indicators of the S1000XR, but as our RS's have the same indicators, I decided to give them a shot.

The mounting cradles for my cameras (Garmin VIRBs) are not shown fitted, but they just go on the 4mm posts and then are secured by the dome nuts. The mounts even come with tethers for the camera as a safety feature.

Minor criticisms: Garmin mounts have a 3mm hole in their single mount point, but I thought I could use my Go Pro to Garmin adapters; they have 4mm holes but double mount points. However, because the 4mm threaded rod is only long enough for a single moint point, I've had to take the Dremel to my adapters and remove a "leg" from each. They are now single mounting points, but they fit!

I thought I'd share this to give anyone with more time and workshop equipment than me some inspiration about making their own simple camera mounts.

The Wunderlich screen mount for gopro is horribly overpriced at £79, even worse they nearly double the price to get it in the USA. That being said, I like the solution.

I don't suppose there is anyone across the pond with a little kindness in their heart?

Lacessit I just use one of the standard GoPro sticky pads on the screen to position the camera exactly where the wunderlich bracket holds it. It’s been on there for there for the best part of 3000 miles now in rain and shine with no issues.

Also in another thread on here someone (could have been holgar) has been using a single ram mount on the mirror arm mounting bolt. That looks like a great solution.

However if you do want a Wunderlich one from U.K. just drop me a PM and we can sort something.

Think that was my post, I have a standard ram handlebar clamp fitted around the mirror base. Works well, not many vibrations seen in the video's so far. Think it is more stable picture than with mounting on the windscreen, which of course will catch a lot of wind?

That’s very similar gaucho but I was thinking of the post that showed this adapter which saves the bracket around the mirror arm. I suppose you could mount one of these on each mirror arm so you get the best footage regardless of driving on the left or driving in the right. I think they were about £3.50 each from eBay.

Word of warning:
That seemed a really good idea, and I had an extra ram ball laying around.. but be CAREFUL. My bolt was a few millimeters too long and the mirror mount is made of pot metal. It snapped right off with next to no resistance.

I'll need to grab a new mirror mount now. :(

For a track session I simply stuck a GoPro mount to the screen. Visible on the top right of screen in pic.

I’ll confess I failed to secure the camera one time and it jumped off at a rather inconvenient time.

Also suffered a little bit too much vibration at times. Would be better nearer the screen mount screws I guess.

Not something I use very often.

Well, it's back to the drawing board for me.

Had a "fast blast" for a couple of hours Sunday pm and used my Garmin Virb on the front indicator mount.

Video is horribly shaky which leads me to believe there is too much play in the indicator mount and possibly the whole panel it's attached to. (I've used the same camera attached to crash bobbins on previous bikes and the video is rock steady thanks to inbuilt stabilisation, but I guess the indicator/panel just bounce too much for the camera.)

Shame. I thought it was a neat idea for a simple camera mount.

Helmet mounts are much more stable as the body acts as a very efficient damping system......also easier to switch on/off when mounted on the side of your helmet.

I've used the mirror stalk successfully . Pretty stable. Easy to turn the camera on and off.

I'm not a video bug....mostly want to catch unusual roads in unusual places... so my needs are not high

I have the Roadhawk Bullet camera and used a handlebar mount on the screen support, also used a portable power pack strapped to the opposite support to provide power for longer journeys (haven't bothered hardwiring the camera in). Works well and protected behind the screen
