Hi all,

So I was installing Heli-bars on my father's 2016 R1200RS and I noticed that the clutch reservoir was cracked at the mount. Has anyone seen this before? He bought the bike used and never noticed this and has never dropped the bike. There are no scuff marks on the clutch lever or anywhere else on the entire bike (it had like 1,600 miles on it when he bought it off a private seller). I thought maybe someone trailered it before and strapped ratchet straps to the handlebars possibly?

BMW does not sell just the housing separately so it's $500 for the whole clutch assembly from the dealer.

Any suggestions on getting this fixed? Can it be welded and re-powder coated? What is it made out of, cast aluminum? Can this even be welded?

I would say that has been over tightened.

Ohlins wheel spindle clamps do the same and they BMW prices look reasonable as it scraps the whole leg

If there is any warranty left check that option first.
Next I would look for a used part.

Bleeding the clutch reservoir does not seem to be an issue, many members have detached the clutch line when they are putting on risers, and re-attached without bleeding.

I haven't done a clutch bleed yet, but I don't think it will be a problem. Air rises. The master cylinder pumps oil "down" to the clutch slave cylinder. When the lever is released, it allows a flow from the line back into the reservoir. The air comes out at that point. On brakes I have done, pulling the lever part way and tying it off (zip tie) half way leaving the passage open, also bleeds the line.

i think the reservoir mount has been overtighten. It's made by plymer, it's not metal.
