I joined the old forum when I was considering buying an RS, though ultimately went with the GS for various reasons, not least the auto adjusting preload which meant switching between solo and two-up was zero hassle, unlike manually adjusted bikes. This was important to me as my wife rides pillion on European tours, though often flies out to the target area and meets me there - she says going fly-ride saves the tedium of the outward and return journeys from the UK! However, with a conventionally suspended bike it would mean me having to make suspension adjustments twice on each trip, and given my experience with other bikes, even after a lot of fiddling with settings, this still ends up as an unsatisfactory compromise, whereas the auto adusting preload and load related damping on the GS makes taking on a pillion effortless with little impact on handling. I have done 11,500 miles on the GS, and will have had it for two years in March 2019, and although it has been great, I still hanker for the RS, and the new version has all the same features as the new GS, so the TFT instrument panel, the new ShiftCam engine, latest generation auto preload ESA suspension, hill stop, etc, which means I may look to change to the RS at some point, maybe when the warranty on the GS runs out! |

But, Fred, which bike will you look good on? The fast and svelte RS or the elephantine GS with Roo bars? I know, that when I'm on my RS (lupin Blue, of course), the next male lead for the 007-movie series is on display for the world.
