Wessie, I disagree. I think that committed motorcyclists belong to a spiritual tribe. By "committed" I do not mean the Uber-Eats scooter riders. I mean people who are united by the common foes of weather and dangers on the road; moveable and stationary. Or people who glimpse the uncomfortable side of "F**k that was close!" or "I thought I was all out of traction." We all can share the uncaged freedom of moving, holding onto the machine; and totally unprotected by it. Basically, we happily roll the dice.

The other things that people are judged by, so often, how they dress, how they speak, where they live, how much "status" their car may indicate - where visual clues are given to the world at large by all citizens are obscured by motorcycle riders. Only an enthusiast can tell a $20,000 + bike from a $8,000 one. Not so with cars, people know and SLC or AMG or R8 all cost heaps. Most people can tell a Rodd & Gunn from a K-mart shirt too.
