Looking for your recommended tyre supply and fitting near me, Leeds, Yorkshire area.

Yes, I am watching the Michelin R5 v R6 GT or not GT thread avidly for the answer. Thanks in advance lads!

Your recommendations on where to buy and fit, would be appreciated. Thank you.

Is there a little bike shop near you? One who can change a tyre obviously.

Tyres can be easily purchased online at a competitive price - my normal procedure so that tyre buying doesn't become a "distress purchase" at the last minute.

A local bike shop fits a my new tyre for a fiver.

There's a few places near to me that won't fit a tyre they didn't supply. It seems to be a growing trend. Thankfully I've found a good one that does. More like £20 than £5 however.

I paid £37 yesterday to have 2 tyres fitted & balanced and 1 carcass disposed of at Cabot tyres in Bristol.

The front still had a bit of life in it so I've kept that. I'll probably end up struggling to dispose of it in a couple of years when I'm bored of tripping over it!

I don't know about the UK, but in the US, I've found it cheaper overall to not have tires shipped to me and brought somewhere for mounting. Once I consider shipping costs and mount/balance, it was cheaper to buy from a local dealer who installed.

I always take my old tyres away as I can dispose of them at the local dump.

I usually take a few extra ones from My Man too.

It’s a little one man band bike garage.

I try to buy tyres from a local independent if possible rather than mail order or a large chain like Protyre I mentioned above. Having recently moved, I have found one and their prices are pretty decent. Protyre are a decent company but owned by the huge Japanese tyre company, Sumitomo and the biggest wholesaler in the UK. They are a useful backstop if in an unfamiliar area and need tyres.

As for the reducing number of fitters willing to fit tyres purchased elsewhere, a lot is to do with disposal regulations. In days gone by, you just slipped some cash into a fitter's palm and the tyre was mounted. The old tyre was just slung on the heap. Nowadays, the business has to account for all of their waste and pay to have it taken to be recycled. Many local authorities will no longer accept tyres at their recycling depots due to the cost. They advise people to take the tyre back to the retailer who has to have a disposal facility, at a price.
