Plenty of canyon/mountain riding, and Harley guys wave at sportbike guys, and vice-versa. But the title of your post had me expecting something else...like a comment on the strange state of the world - AI, debt ceilings, war, the "smart device" zombification of an entire generation or the corruption of our food supply. Or "shrink-flation". Or any number of other things. Hope to get a ride in this afternoon, but thunderheads are building. Weird weather this year. |

But I was walking along the river trail the other morning, early, and happened to meet an older woman who was out doing light trail maintenance. It was a beautiful morning, with birds of all kinds singing their hearts out, Ospreys patrolling for fish along the river, squirrels chittering in the trees and early morning sunlight creating diamonds on the river's surface and I said to the woman: "When I walk out here in the morning, everything makes sense, even this dead tree beside the trail. But when I return to the human world, nothing makes sense". Nothing, perhaps, except motorcycling...lol! |

We used to go to McCall Idaho every year when my wife's Uncle and Aunt had a place. They were about a block away from the entrance to Pondrosa state forest. I would get up every morning and walk about 5 miles through the forest trails. When I'd get back all seemed right with the world. My wife said two days there and all the stress would drain from my face. Nothing but nature, animals and quite. I sure miss that place now. |

I used to backpack and climb in the California Sierras with a good friend/climbing partner. I was working as a financial advisor at the time (I was about 30 years old then). I particularly recall one trip, to climb Mt. Ritter. Work was stressful, and for the first two days I kept hearing this Betty Crocker jingle in my head...it would not go away. "Betty Crocker ready-to-spread frosting mix..." All day long. On the third day, my mind was clear, no jingle, no ruminative thinking...just peace and the sounds of the mountains. My climbing buddy had a similar experience...work thoughts, round and round. By the fourth day, we were communicating through grunts and one-syllable words. It was great. After a week, we had to return to work. That wasn't so great. |
