Sad news overnight, local pensioner involved in impact with one of the RS outriders guessing from the hole in a dark screen.

Can only wish for good outcome but not looking good at the moment.

These are the Royal Protection RS squad according to newspapers and pictures do show royal crest on dark screens.

Bikes equipped with usual hi-viz lghts, thin panniers and a GS type rear mudguard -(no hugger or visible mudsling)

Not very good reporting there.

Not much on HOW it happened. Sounds like victim was on foot, so how did she manage to get in front of a police escort? I'm pretty sure those guys are well-trained to not run into people.

the news agency will not have any details of what happened and that link was one of the first published

any accident report is unlikely to get into the public domain unless the old lady dies triggering an inquest

another news channel spoke to an eye witness who said the person was hit at speed - my guess is that the bike had blocked off a junction and was playing catch up after the VIP convoy passed. Little old lady probably thought the convoy had passed and stepped off the pavement and was hit.

Yikes. That would indicate the motor officer wasn�t paying attention. Even going fast, you go as fast as you can scan ahead for obstacles.

The Special Escort Group are the model for basically all of the VIP motorcycle protection groups operated across the globe. They are the creme de la creme - zero chance that the rider would not have been paying attention.

ALso I can't see that the black screen could have blocked view in any way given how short / low it is. If the rider was playing catch up, you'd expect him or her to be out in the middle of the road and not passing near pedestrians if he or she had any option? Therefore it could have been one of the close riders and his / her room to manoeuvre away from the pedestrian was limited by the car he was protecting / road furniture? The protectee's car travels pretty quickly since keeping them out of danger is basically the point.

Let's hope the old lady makes a full recovery.
