I'm wondering why it's only those models. I believe they have a different final drive ratio compared to the R and RS (and maybe RT).

It's also, um, curious, that they're fixing it with software.

It explains very well what it was all of this about. It is traction control software update. So if you go offroad and have traction control off and rear wheel loose the contact with the ground, it will accelerate a lot if you're on accelerator. Then when the wheel makes a contact with a ground, the speed of the wheel is abruptly changed and it put a lot of stress on the drive shaft, U-joints, final drive and even a gear box. In that ocasion, one of those parts may brake.

It also makes a bit of sense as a software fix. The situation is pretty brutal behavior on a heavy bike.

But, all those videos showing ADV bikes doing rooster tails, etc.

This reminds me of my younger cousin coming to hunting camp in his brand new Toyota 4x4 pick-up truck in the late 80s. It had all the off-road accessories and aftermarket suspension. As the old guys would say, "he went from thank-you ma'am, to thank-you ma'am", just hitting the high points of the bumpy camp road. But, one of the old guys added..........."It'll do that a while, then it won't"

The "while" lasted 9 months

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the RTP model? I've never heard of that one.
The link in post #1 of this thread refers first to R1250RTP, and then in a table further down to K1250RTP. Eh?

It's an RT Police model - RTP. Interesting that the RT is on the list for the recall..

So it appears that BMW America issues a nationwide recall for their native owners with there being NO faults. While the European company of BMW ignores everybody on their side of the Atlantic, that have bought BMW's, and have had faults. Well done.

This not anything new due to differing regulatory frameworks in the two jurisdictions. The US has a wider tradition of home servicing and a relatively sparse network of BMW agencies.

In Europe, many things are dealt with via service bulletins and an update takes place at the next service interval. Of course, this is reliant on a rider returning to a franchised workshop for routine service, or at least checking with the dealer for any current service bulletins if home servicing.
