Tips for ordering panniers and topbox for the 1250RS

A lot of good said about Givi in the thread, @Becksy recommended the ST611 which judging by the current Givi catalogue replaced the ST602 you've linked. Seems about right in size. And, goes without saying, I consider most valid recommendations from the people in the 'realized he needs an RS' crowd - being a proud member and all.
That guy on a red CBR in January people stare at because it's 0C and they're shivering in a car with heated seats - but he's filtering awaaaay!

My limited rain experience with the stock panniers was a positive one. 6 hours of non-stop, sometimes torrential rain on a trip from NC to GA. Everything in both sides was dry |

Both of us have over 60,000 miles with the BMW RS bags and no soaked clothes. Everyone I know use bag liners making it easier to carry clothes into the motel or tent. If water drips in when opening a bag the liner keeps the clothes dry.

I went for the BMW panniers because they are made to fit very neatly onto the bike without looking like aftermarket rubbish. Okay I have no need to try and save money so there was no point in buying universal panniers made for any bike and then bolting some ugly bits of metal to attach them. My bike looks good with the well fitted panniers fitted and looks good with them removed.
2020 R1250RS, 2018 Ducati 939 Supersport, 2018 Ducati Monster 821, 1967 Ducati 250 mk3. All PCP free.

I'm running a set of BMW bags (Made by SHAD) because the previous owner of the bags sold them for a lower price than a set of new SHAD bags with brackets. I like the SHAD bags but wasn't that crazy about the appearance of the mounting brackets. If I was someone that keeps the bags on the bike all the time and had to buy new, I would opt for the SHAD bags.

Although, I rarely take them off as I am lazy and I like bikes to have a utilitarian, well used look. Aesthetically, I am not a fan of the BMW luggage, especially in the wanky shade of grey most people seem to have.

Now I quite like the wanky grey panniers on my piss yellow bike. But I didn’t want to pay top dollar and what ever anyone says the Shad/Givi ones do look a bit ‘after market’. So I got some pre-patinaed second hand BMW ones from a forum member. OEM and cheap! Who’d a thought it! |

I bought the BMW panniers and liners as part of the purchase 'deal', but couldn't come the extra $ for the topbox at the time. Shortly after heard about and bought the Shad 59X top box. Needed an adaptor but straightforward fitting. My 'daily' rides and 'overnighters' I only use the topbox, panniers for longer. I haven't had any problem with water seeping in. LOVE the adaptability of the Shad - mostly ride with it locked down low, but accommodates the helmet / gloves / leather jacket etc so I lock it up and walk away. It does look a bit like a pizza box closed, but I'm not usually looking behind! Pillion reports the backrest is "comfy". First 2 photos with the panniers fitted - 1st box is 'down', 2nd with it expanded. 3rd lowered without panniers.
I'm not old - I'm Vintage. Current ride:- 2021 R1250RS.
