Get whichever model fits your needs/budget, colour doesn't really matter as you could always get it wrapped sky blue pink or any other colour come to think of it.

Honestly, I see little reason to upgrade from the 1200 to the 1250 unless you want the improvements of the shift cam technology and slightly larger displacement. If you were happy with the 1200, the improvements only matter if you feel they address one of the "drawbacks" you found in the 1200. The same will be so with the 1300...and add in that greater displacement = more fuel consumption...which can be a bad thing if you intend to tour.

I think I am moving more towards keeping the 1200, after all the R1200ST had all I wanted and had the abs pump not failed at 40k I know the rest of the bike would probably outlive me.

Foreign travel is out this year, need a new passport and the current delays are for months, with no guaranteed supply date.

I just had the first, laughable (or insulting) px from dealership and the extra money required to change seems pointless. (especially considering the "5 owner 20k plus bike in the showroom compared to my 13k, 1 owner version in far better condition)

I was also advised against getting what I want as nobody else would want it in the furture? I thought the man with the gold made the rules on his purchase choices?

For some reason a 'special order' would be required for a bike lacking keyless/esa/cruise control etc and could take 10 weeks anyway - I guess the 'customer is always right' may not be correct!

My dealer has commented more than once that most dealer orders are for fairly “loaded” bikes as most buyers seem to want all the electronics, at least here locally.

When they do get one without, they’re sold quickly as people are quick to take advantage of the savings. Go figure.

When I bought my 2016 RS in May 2015, all of the bikes available were loaded with everything the factory could stuff into the chassis. I did ask about getting a bike with an ignition key, instead of the keyless system and the basic suspension, instead of ESA. I was told at the time that that configuration would have to be special ordered and it would take about 9 months to arrive. So I bit the bullet and got a loaded RS off of the showroom floor.

As usual, just a taster of mis-information for a headline, there may be some truth in updates next year.

Not worried either way, keep current RS, new RS this year or next.

All options open, still think about the R1200R as I enjoyed my 2013 R across europe ( or naked RS if you prefer!).

Following a two hour trip across dartmoor (very busy in places but ok away from holidaymaker haunts!) I am now leaning toward staying with the RS.

Maybe that underwelming px offer has given me time to think, unless an 'end of quarter' better offer turns up in 2 weeks time?.

So many threads here on "shall I buy a bike with 20/30,000 miles" with good response on higher mileages I think my 13k RS is ok for a while yet.

I checked my service book and after the 12k service @ 11k, the last three years have been the lowest mileage I have ever done in the last 25 years.

600/700/700 miles each year with a home service of engine oil with filter, plus bevel drive oil I am pretty sure the RS will be ok, just need a brake fluid change.

When I consider the ST had 40k and would not have been sold if the abs was replaceable at a reasonable cost, I am sure this engine etc will be ok for now.

Maybe this RS is now my 'keeper' !!! and now down to one bike the service costs/tax/insurance will be less.

I have had the odd, "ooh that might be nice" moment but have eventually come to the same conclusion

I would also add, after 2000 miles in 3 years it has Offically reached the "spent more on oil/servicing than petrol, which is very sad, Thanks China!

3 years/ 660 miles per year and as I get over 64 mpg that was 10 or 11 gallons ( average £1:50 per litre over 3 yrs is £6:82 a uk gallon) so £75

4 litres of virgin amber nectar rebranded as Shell/BMW Oil £60 Oil filter £16 and 180cc of bevel oil plus washers etc £80

And 3 yearly mot's (uk £30 safety check) with road tax now over £100 - Why is my 1 series bmw deisel car only £30 per year.

I suppose I could go to the pub and send money down the drain that way but Dartmoor's roads did look good today.

Stick with the “keep it” club.

Buying a new one would really screw your cost per mile calculation.

Once you get a bike sorted to your satisfaction, no brand new bike is going to easily take it’s place.

Who needs 10 more HP?

Who needs a TV screen dash? I need Speed & Gear.

Who notices sliding cam shafts?

If you don’t like the colour then paint it.
















from a cocky one who just enjoyed a 2700 mile Euro trip in May and almost 7,000 miles since MOT in June 2021.
And I’m not a high mileage man.
