Long time Beemer rider, having ridden them since 1983 - R80ST, R80RT, K75S, R1100R, R1150GS, R1100R, R1150GS, R1100R. Used to be known as pint6x on UKGSER forum. Wessie - I believe we have met before!

Looking at R1200RS now. Massively discouraged from the (then) new 1200's from 2004 onwards with their fragility - ABS, Final drive, fuel issues, shonky electrics. Have seen the 1200 morph in various forms from then up until the 1250 was introduced. Just wondering which particular era of shite build quality the R1200RS was introduced under. It ticks a lot of boxes for me, but not at the expense of enriching my nearest Motorrad dealer.

Is there a buyer's guide or a 'what to look out for' or 'don't buy this particular model year' section?

I agree with you totally on the 1200GS ownership experience, but the RS is now one of the few true sports tourers around and what a beast it is, especially with the 1250 motor

I'm another UKGSeR user.

I've got one of the first 2015 RS12s. Blue of course.

Still loving it at 33,000 miles.

DIY servicing since the warranty expired.

I've only been stopped by a couple of punctures. 1 irreparable (van home). 1 repaired but leaked for 50 miles home.

I believe some say newer gear changes got smoother, but I've never ridden any other.

You can read a lot about the mods people do until they evolve the ideal bike. Screens. Seats. Pegs. Handle bars.

If you want a lush cruiser behind a barn door just buy a Harley or something. We're all different shapes an sizes.

I only ride solo. Don't use any "connectivity". Just a GPS. I've got mine with non-ESA Maxton suspension, hi seat, cool cover, lo pegs and lo screen.

I've enjoyed riding on an assortment of roads from a narrow, rough goat track in the north of Scotland, track sessions at Knockhill to the autobhan and mountain roads in Germany and Austria.

Mine's not a garage queen, though I did wash it today after 1200 miles to Wales and back last week.

Look after the bike and bike will look after you. ( I had an ABS moment last week)

Well I had the first blue/black R1200ST that Ocean BMW sold (Pete Armrstrong) which I still own. Yes, I had a fuel pressure regulator failure after 6 years,only breakdown, (at the bottom of my road/just 1/2 mile away so breakdown service took it away to dealership!)the little printed board alongside the fuel tank failed connection, and now at 38,000 miles the bevel drive had to be overhauled.
The 'power brakes/discs/abs units are all original, as is fuel pump/alternator/starter motor/clutch.
I guess I got a midweek production bike rather than the friday afternoon stuff you may be referring to.
Since then the R1200S/R1200R/2015 R1200RS and 2017 model, both Lupin Blue have given me 16years of two wheel fun over almost 100,000 miles.
Nothing wrong with the 2015 RS, gearbox and all parts operated without issue, updated 2017 model may have improved/uprated parts but I do not 'miss' them on my ST.
All things considered I would say the 1200 range have been quite an improvement on the earlier 1000/1150 models and as many parts on the 1250 are 'heritage copies' or same part numbers I suspect the 1250 will be just as "fragile" as earlier models.
