For the second year in a row I made a trip to Northern Idaho to visit my daughter and her family. This time I made the journey solo and it was spectacular. Seeing my daughter and my granddaughters was the highlight, but there were some “bucket-list” roads involved, too. Among many other passes, I rode Lolo Pass...twice! I rode the North Road in Yellowstone National Park unobstructed(COVID had attendance way down). I passed Bison that were only a few feet away. From there I also rode the Beartooth Highway and the Chief Joseph Highway. Later, I rode the Wind River Canyon in central Wyoming. Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming are magnificent...and relatively uninhabited. A highly recommended touring destination with high speed limits! “I would rather be ashes than dust!" ~ Jack London |

I had a hair-raising experience on last year’s trip when we hit snow at White Bird Summit in Idaho. No way I wanted to repeat that experience. We really departed about two weeks too early on that tour, just after Easter. We came across a great deal of snow and frequent cold temperatures. I only did the western half of Beartooth...no wildlife warning signs. There were plenty in Yellowstone, however. I saw a great deal of buffalo, deer, elk and antelope. There was hardly another vehicle around. It felt great to know that I was the only human around for many miles. The Great Basin in Nevada is another such place. In the photo below (from 2019), we had stopped for coffee and snacks. No vehicles passed us from either direction for 30 minutes...
