Reflective highlights on panniers

I spent some time in my wife’s art studio yesterday designing reflective strips for the sides of panniers. I used 3M reflective silver bought from Motoreflective (used to advertise on our old forum) and played around with the swoosh design until I was happy, it follows and sits just within the moulded contour of the panniers. |

Zitat von Mr. 36654 im Beitrag #3 Valid concern, but due to the moulded surface the cross section is a “soft V” so the lower half is close to perpendicular to the floor, so I believe it will reflect well. I’ll have to get the bike out late in the evening and shine a light onto it to be sure, but I’m confident it will work. |

I bought the Motoreflectivie product very early after joining the previous forum. Excellent product. Did what it was meant to. IMO it has made the bike far more visible (I use the top box all the time), especially at night. I live in an area with a lot of drivers from "up north", meaning way, way up north.. China. Trust me, anything that you can do to help what I think are inexperienced drivers see the bike is well worth it especially in car parks. |

Days are getting shorter and likely to be riding at night. It struck me that the bike is fairly inconspicuous from the rear. I added some of the motoreflective to the inner panniers, re-cut the outer pieces to fit the top case and added the 1/2" 3M stripes. I like the look and conspicuity, but the jury is out on the longevity of the 3M tape. It's thick, fairly inflexible and the cells on the edge are open due to the manufacturer simply cutting it into a 1/2" wide roll. |

Looks good Mr C. , I also used Motoreflective on the inner face of the rear panniers just as you have and I put a strip along the top box (also Motoreflective) in a similar location to where you have used the 3M tape, I didn’t want to use the larger blocks of reflective material on the top box. Then I cut some swooshes (from a silver reflective sheet) for the sides of the panniers. I’m keen to keep a balance between safety/visibility and maintaining nice aesthetics. |
