Went out for a ride over the Wolds this morning. I had checked the bike over last night and all was well.
Unbeknown to me whilst extracting the bike from the garage I managed take a bicycle innertube with it, lassoed over the right hand mirror stalk. I have been doing up the wifes bicycle and had nonchalantly tossed the tube over the bike onto a shelf. Somehow it got around the stalk and remained out of sight hanging down by the fork leg.
All was well as I left the edge of town at low speed. Clear of the limit I had just increased the pace to about 50mph when the aforementioned tube reared up into my face like a demented snake, thrashing about in the cockpit.
Talk about shit yourself.
I managed to restrain it with my left hand as I slowed and stopped. I continued with the ride and enjoyed a pleasant ride after stowing the serpent in the topbox.
Morale of the story...
Check your bike before you ride and not the night before, strange things can happen.
