#1 | What Model R1200RS Have I Got - K50 or K54? datum

When taking out my mandatory insurance (CTP, NSW Australia) with a new company, they've assigned the wrong model to my bike in the documentation.

It is coming up as an R1200GS instead of a R1200RS, which is causing some minor issues.

What puzzles me is that all the references I can find indicate that K50 is the code for the 1200GS and K54 is the code for the 1200RS.

Is the K50 a collector's version that is bound to be worth millions in coming years or is there a simpler explanation?

The factory build sheet for my 2016 R1200RS says K54.

K54 is the R RS

This is why I am confused...

It's a fuck up in the factory. Someone mixed up the pack of tags in the factory. I bet there is a GS out there somewhere that is an RS on the computer.

Speak to a dealer so they can get your frame number associated with the K54 model code as this is used by a number of systems to identify the bike for insurance, parts etc.

Mistakes do get made and go unnoticed. I bought a 12 year old moped once, and when I went to tax it for the road it transpired the Reg plate had the wrong numbers on it🤔 I can't understand how it hadn't been noticed before.

Maybe you should purchase a second RS to use and the first one is now a 'sunny day keeper' so better to keep mileage low protect your investment!
