Off Topic » Came off the RS - what next?

Last Sunday I went for a ride down the A5 to Jack Hills Cafe. Just outside Crick, heading south, a car came over the white lines and hit me. I dont know if the driver was asleep or on his mobile but he certainly had lost attention. Luckily, he struck a glancing blow (offside to offside), rather head on. This was enough to tip me off (ar about 55mph) and ended up with 6 broken ribs, damaged lung and other cuts and grazes. I can verify that Hood kevlar jeans, Held jackets and Scuberth C3 do a good job!

I was laid out on the road for around an hour until the ambulance arrived. Police attended and took witness statements (including from the driver that hit me). Given the state i was in, i do not have details and didnt give s formal statement. Was taken to UCHC Coventry (where i am writting this from on off their beds). Due get back home tomorrow.

Dont know what state the bike is in as i was on the ground being given first aid. Police recovered the bike and have sent me a letter detailing where it is. I’ve contacted my insurance and will have conversations with them and the police, once out of hospital tomorrow.

Any advise on-
What expect from police and insurance companies
Recovering all cost and potential compensation
Ensuring the driver is brought to book
Dealing with insurance componies and the police. Also, as it is BMW PCP, any tips.

Given the state of my right boot and foot, I suspect the off side cylinder prevented me losing my leg!

Mrs GH and I were due to fly to cyprus for s weeks holiday on Friday.......this is now cancelled.

Bloody hell Gordon I'm sorry to hear about the collision.
I can't offer any advice except sue the hell out of the driver,his insurance will press you for an injury settlement but hang on for as much as you can get. We got 5 grand after being knocked off in a supermarket car park.
Nows probably the time to be looking at new bikes on the intraweb.

Gordon, really sorry to learn of you accident ‘, hope you have a speedy recovery. Can’t offer any practical advice regarding insurance etc, but I do hope you get a good outcome, there are too many drivers concentrating on anything but their driving - idiots!

Speak to White Dalton specialist solicitors. The ones your insurers appoint are not necessarily experts, regardless of what they claim. As someone else said, the other party's insurers may try to get you to settle. Don't do so until after speaking to a solicitor who is working for YOU, and not your insurers.

I would look for recommendations for a decent solicitor close to home - I do not have a lot of faith in the people employed by the large claims handlers, many of whom are only interested in the commission and have very poor legal training.
