How many grams of balance weights do you have on your rear wheel?

My dealer put a Conti RA3 on my rear wheel, but has also put 80 grams of balance weights on it (40 grams each side of the wheel)......

No one can say.

Next time ask for the wheel to be balanced without the tyre if you are concerned about the wheel.

I'm not concerned about the wheel, more concerned about the (lack of skill) mechanic who did the tire change.

42 grams on my bike, none on Debbie's.
I think the most we had on a bike was around 70 grams.

Sometimes guys will break the bead when there is that much weight and retry after rotating the tire 180 degrees.

So 80 grams is not that silly much?

I mount/balance my own wheels and if the indicated weight to balance exceeds 45 grams, I will rotate the tire 180 degrees. Having mounted many tires for my friend's GS I have noticed that the BMW's require more balance weight. The GS takes more weight than my RS. Usually on my other bikes the most I see is 42 grams to balance. Also it's important to line up the red dot on the side of the tire with the valve.

I also take care of all my tire changes. In the past I’ve always taken wheel and found and marked the true heavy spot on the rim (white dot in pic), as opposed to just lining up with the stem. On my ‘92 Ducati I’ve rarely added more than 21 grams to either wheel, and a few times, only 7 grams using this method. On the other hand, the RS has consistently taken closer to that 45 gram amount, regardless of what tire brand. I’m sure it has everything to do with the TPM mass.

My front carries a few grams, but the rear has never been balanced as the tyre fitter can't mount it on the machine.

Never been a problem.

And I go even faster without all that extra lead . . . . . . . .

Does the GS spoke wheels tend to take more weights than the GS cast wheels?
