Today I took my 1250RS out for the first ride and normally I zoom in and out using the "wonderwheel" on my BMW NAV VI.

Unfortunately that didn't work anymore and that was quit a disappointment as you now first have to touch the screen before you'll see the buttons. As soon as I got home I downloaded the manual to search for a solution and found on page 105 (Dutch manual) that you have to press the "menu"-button (top-side) for a few seconds and then the wonderwheel will switch from TFT to NAV. At that point, the NAV V or VI must be mounted of course.

That was a relief...

Not related, but was in Germany on business last week and had a hire car (Volvo XC60) and very quickly got very frustrated that if I wanted to change the temp in the car, the radio station or anytihng I have to navigate through various menus on a TFT display when I just used to turn a simple dial!

They call this progress???????????????????

You have to wonder what screen designers think a driver is doing while he is gazing at a complicated screen instead of looking where he/she is going....
I'm all for buttons and switches which muscle memory allows you to press/feel without looking at it.... I have a helmet intercom linked to my Nav 5 so I can hear instructions and a very short glance at the nav screen confirms what's been said.
I have to say, the 1200RS screen doesn't have me looking at it too much... its always set with the Digital speedo prominent...

Less is more..... the nav wheel is a good design I think...

Same as the GS set up.

Not to derail your thread, but what does that icon at the bottom left "A inside headlight" mean? Do you have automatic high beams? Is that something I can program on my US bike?

At a guess I would say that indicates the DRL is on.

I do not have the auxiliary lights but I do have every option possible on the bike.

This light indicates that DLR will automatically switch to dimlights whenever it get's too dark, like sunset or tunnels, or even in heavy rain.

I think it is about a US or European model.

In The Netherlands we have the R_0J81 model and looking at the available manuals, there's also the R_0J83 model.

R_0J83 seems to be missing a button. (nr.11 on R_0J81) that switches between automated or manual DLR.

And now you can learn some Dutch words as well.

My 15 RS had the DRL. In set up you could set it to Auto. Then, in daylight, the centre strip was on. If you went under a bridge, the low beam came on and the DRL went off. When you rode out, the low beam extinguished and the DRL came on.
If you hit the headlight button, the low beam came on, and the DRL extinguished.
It is very simple in operation. I believe my new 1250 will be the same.

That was my guess but in his picture he does not have the BMW Auxiliary Lights.
