Hello, I hope you allow me to stay when I admit to not owning a 1200RS. I have a R100RS and an R1150RS and spent a good part of 2017 riding a rental R1200RS ... someday I'll own one.

I'm a travel guide writer based in the south of Scotland and enjoy motorcycling in all its forms. Last year I published The Motorcyclist's Guide to Scotland which is, to the best of my knowledge, the only guide book to Scotland aimed at bikers.

Ooh! One of my kids gave me that for Christmas - it looks really good. I'm looking forward to putting it into practical use later this year!

Tarmapper, which year is your R100RS? I am fortunate enough to have one (1981) alongside my R1200RS

I'm not a million miles from you in Dalkeith (a bit too close to the local BMW shop!).
Reckon I have pretty good knowledge of Scotland and have done most of its roads on a bike - but always room to learn more. Will grab a copy and see what I can learn!!

The book seems to have gone down pretty well so far - at least no-one has panned it publicly or to my face! It's feels a bit pretentious to describe myself as a "Travel Guide Writer" but, in the absence of anything else, that's my occupation when buying insurance or being stopped by the police. I'm just a bloke who likes motorbikes and has written a guide book.

Woz: The easiest place for you to get a copy is the BMW shop in Dalkeith. They lent me the RS for a couple of weeks (God bless 'em!) to nip round on a research trip and they have a bunch of books in stock. The Restoration Yard in Dalkeith Palace took a few as well.

Boxerboy: It's a gold 1978 - now qualifying to be MOT-free and enjoy buckshee tax. It's in so many bits on the workbench, I'm worried about ever getting her pieced back together again. That's why I've just bought the 1150RS - to ensure I get some worry-free bike-time come the spring.

I'm originally from Auchinleck but have lived in Leicestershire for most of my life.

Scottish Borders and D&G are stunning areas and relatively unknown.

I'll be ordering your book.

Will be heading for the Ardnamurchan penisular late May on the basis of nothing more than visiting the lighthouse and standing at the most westerly point of the UK mainland. Will be camping near Strontian as a base and will use your guide to string several routes together from the borders onwards.

The spotify play list is a genius idea...but I've not sampled it yet.....

used to stay every year in Moffat at Lime Tree house and ride out on those amazing roads also like the A712

Picked up your book from the BMW shop. Impressive guide with some cracking routes. With the exception of Arran, Orkney (dived but never ridden), Shetland and a bit of the South West, I think I've done pretty much all of your listed roads - just not always in the same order!

Always drawn to the North West (and I think the A832 from Achnasheen to Corrieshalloch is the best biking road in the UK), but I think your 4-day tour is a great intro to Scotland for those with limited time.

Did the NC500 roads before they joined them up and gave it a name, but it is still a brilliant trip. Two of us are doing a NC500-in-a-day in early June (when we have about 20 hours of daylight), as a warm up for a trip to the Brno Moto GP (and a long and winding route home) in August.

(GordonH - though not specifically listed in John's excellent guide, the CalMac ferry from Kilchoan is also a really convenient link to get you across to Tobermory and the brilliant wee run down the west coast of Mull. If you get as far as Ardnamurchan, then I'd highly recommend it!)
