I had many wonderful years in the past with a number of BMW's finest bikes....but for a while I strayed over to the British side of the Margineau Line (spelling?)...and enjoyed the tasty samples of the Triumph line of sport touring and adventure bikes. Alas, I am older and wiser now. I sold both my Trumpets and pulled the trigger on a shiny new 2018 R1200RS...very happy to be back in the BMW Fold with all you fine Beemer Riders once again! -Dr Ron

Hello.

I dabbled with an Explorer for a year 2017-18. Fine motor and great WP suspension on the XRx but I did not gel with the bike. I had the RS at the same time and always preferred the RS.

Explorer now swapped for a S1000XR which is getting more use than the RS in recent months, but not tried it for a long trip yet. The RS is superb for long trips, fun on a short ride and an able commuter but does not have quite the same jeopardy factor you get riding the XR. The latter might get tiring on a long trip, especially with luggage attached.

Anyway, I digress. Welcome, I am sure you will enjoy the RS.

Thank you Sir! How have you managed to quell that nasty vibration in the handlebars and footpegs on your swift-as-lightening XR? I couldn't live with it after a short highway stint and traded it in for an RT a few years ago! -Dr Ron

Mine is a 2016 bike and they either had a fix in the factory by then or introduced a mod. I think they added some rubbers on the bar mounts as I don't notice any vibes, well vibey enough for me to worry about at least. Anecdotal evidence is that vibes reduce with miles but not sure how that works. The bike had 10k when I bought it but it's over 12,000 miles now. Time will tell if it is good on a long trip but I have the luxury of 2 bikes to choose from.
