200 hp Lightning LS-218 electric motorcycle goes into production

Lightning motorcycles have been around for a number of years. About 8 years ago they managed to push their LS-218 model to 218 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats, which is how it got its name. Now they have bought (or are leasing) a very expensive new Global Corporate Headquarters and manufacturing facility in San Jose, CA, and claim that they are now starting mass production of their LS-218. Prices apparently will hover around the $40,000 range, though. No doubt Jay Leno will be one of the first purchasers. So who wants to be riding a 200 hp motorcycle on the street? Sounds kind of scary to me. I sure hope the bikes come with traction control.

Attached are some photos that I took of the Lightning LS-218 at an electric vehicle event in 2014, where Lightning had a small display. Although I live not too far from their original "factory", which was previously located in San Carlos, CA, I never, ever, saw a Lightning moving on a public highway, except in an occasional video produced by a motorcycle magazine reviewer who was given one of their prototypes to test for an hour or two.

There's a lot of chain there........otherwise, looks pretty good.
