Just for comparison with the estimated prices I gave for the R1250RS, the following includes the corresponding figures for the three variants of the R1250R:

R Base model: £11,215, £14340 with addition of Comfort, Premium and Dynamic packages.
RS Base model: £12,100, £15,225 with addition of Comfort, Premium and Dynamic packages.

R Sport model: £12,700, £14,730 with addition of Comfort and Premium packages (Sport already includes Dynamic pack.)
RS Sport model: £13,425, £15,455 with addition of Comfort and Premium packages (assuming error in description means that Sport actually only includes Dynamic pack.)

*RS Sport model: £13,425, £14,975 with addition of Premium package (assuming Sport includes Comfort and Dynamic packs, but it looks like inclusion of Comfort pack items in spec may be an error.)

R Exclusive model: £13,015, £14,590 with addition of Comfort and Dynamic packages (Exclusive already includes Premium pack.)
R Exclusive model: £13,900, £15,475 with addition of Comfort and Dynamic packages (Exclusive already includes Premium pack.)


*I had originally thought that lack of Comfort package on the RS Exclusive was the error. However, from this comparison it seems that it is the RS1250RS Sport which is the anomaly as unlike the corresponding R it comes with both Comfort and Dynamic packages included, so possibly that is an error in the RS spec, as without the Comfort pack it is more consistent with the R pricing, plus the Sport and Exclusive prices are very similar when fully specced up, which is more what I would expect. Bad news if true as it means that a fully specced bike is more expensive than I thought!

My understanding is that the emergency button will not be offered in the U.S., since we don't have emergencies here.

The configurator is now live and as suspected it is now clear that the Sport model only includes the Dynamic pack, and the Exclusive only includes the Premium pack. The prices for the three models are now as follows:

Base model: £12,100, fully equipped £14,915 (adding Comfort, Premium and Dynamic packs)

Sport model: £13,425, fully equipped £15,360 (adding Comfort and Premium packs)

Exclusive model: £13,900, fully equipped £15240 (adding Comfort and Dynamic packs)

Yes, when I say fully equipped, that is not quite accurate as I mean fully equipped with all the three optional packages, but even with those there are still some additional items which you can only add individually, like alarm, alternative seats and rear rack. I can understand that for the seats and alarm, as not everybody wants them, but it seems a bit mean to not fit a rack, which is essential if you want a topbox and even if not can still be useful.

Well of course, if something you don't want is part of a pack, then you don't have to add the pack as I believe everything in a pack is also available individually. However, if you add everything, or even most things in a pack as individual items, it will probably cost more - in the case of the Dynamic pack which costs £880, the same four items if added separately cost £995. However if you don't want everything in a pack it can be worthwhile. For example, I might not go for the Dynamic pack costing £880 because the only thing I really want from that is the Riding Modes Pro option which costs £400 if added separately. There seems to be no way to remove anything which comes as part of the base bike spec.

If you want a bespoke package then you will have to wait many months for the factory to make the bike, with little discount. I'm an impulse buyer and will try to deal on a bike in stock to get a price advantage. Inevitably I will end up with add-ons I would prefer not to pay for - this was keyless on my RS but I did get a grand off for buying in the last week of the 3rd quarter.

I'm debating that myself - I bought a GS two years ago and got a good deal mid-March on a fully specced lowered chassis TE model bike which was in stock and immediately available, but I think this tactic is more likely to be successful with the GS which sells in much larger numbers than the RS.

Now, yes, you won't get a deal on a 1250 as they are all pre-order. You will get a cracking deal on any left over 1200 registered before the end of December. The best time of year for a BMW bike in my opinion is the last 2 weeks in September. BMW offers the largest incentives to clear bikes in stock in the 3rd quarter as they do not want to carry over these bikes into the next model year. Same with dealers, they don't want inventory sitting on the shop floor over winter so they will often add stuff like accessory bundles into the mix to sweeten the deal.

BMW starts shipping demo bikes to dealers around the same time as the autumn motor shows so they want customers to focus on these and place bespoke orders for delivery the following spring. Thereby giving them firm orders for most of the bikes they will make after the Xmas shutdown. Most of these are sold for the full RRP with plenty of factory add-ons. By May, the showroom will fill with standard specification bikes ready for the fair weather impulse buyers. It's the autumn leftovers of these bikes that form the best bargains.

Meanwhile the US website still does not show the 1250RS and all three local dealers no absolutely nothing of the 1250, when it will arrive or how much it will cost.

I'm tempted to buy the basic spec (either 1250RS or 1250R) nect time around and add a limited number of options - heated grips/pannier rails as I'm looking for a "10 year" bike so would like to keep things simple in terms of technology.
