I read somewhere that the crunch will come in December when the US car makers run out of the inventory they stockpiled before the tariffs were applied.

As for food inflation, we have had that in spades for some time, due to the Ukraine situation driving up grain and LNG prices. The maintenance of price points has been smoke and mirrors as we have seen considerable shrinkflation. Aldi will still sell you a pack of 6 English breakfast sausages for £2.50 but the pack is now 400g not 500g and the pork content has been reduced. They have the same protein content and remain gluten free so no rusk, but they add things like pea protein.
Whilst the sausages contain no grain so are not affected by the Ukraine thing, the pigs eat shit loads of the stuff to fatten them up quickly.

Maybe the way Americans buy cars is helping delay the impact of tariffs. Don’t you tend to buy your cars from dealer stock? Always thought that was strange when watching a US drama and someone goes down the dealer and drives a new car home the same day. Different in Europe where we tend to order our new cars specifying what we want on the car and being happy to wait for 12-16 weeks for it to turn up!

That only works for some car brands. Toyota, Honda & BMW have maintained low inventory levels. Cox Automotive is great source of free info on the US car market.

Well, if you really want to get cross-eyed, figure out how with inflation remaining elevated the US president thinks the solution is to force the Fed to dramatically lower interest rates in the most speculative, over-valued stock market in history. A large move lower in rates might add fuel to the stock market frenzy, but it would also ignite hyper-inflation, sending "real" assets like gold to the moon. "AI" is being touted as the be-all and end-all, but just as happened in the so-called "dot.com" mania, the build-out went way beyond what was needed in the foreseeable future. All this helps companies like Microsoft and Nvidia "right now", but when the sh*t hits the fan I wouldn't want to be invested in AI.

Good point about the pinch for autos coming in December. Those who might wonder how much shelter a "house of cards" can provide may soon get their answer.

The wholesale inflation rate for the month of July was 3.3%. The Fed is looking for a rate of 2% before dropping commercial interest rates. Good luck getting to that target any time soon.

And the producer price report (wholesale prices) this morning showed the largest jump in 3 years. Somewhere along the line producers are eating rising costs, so far, as the consumer inflation report this week was "benign" (not sure about that logic).

Discretionary items like motorcycles, boats, RV's, ATV's and the like will surely be looking for buyers who aren't there, especially with summer winding down.

Wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments but disagree that "healthy" food is more expensive. People these days don't cook with the basic meat, fruit and vegetables anymore. You get a lot more of these for the same money as the processed foods but processed foods are easier to rustle up quickly to the family. The average person has become lazy in this regard and budgeting has become old fashioned.

I stopped at a refurbished Dunkin Donuts for a cup of coffee in a small town. About 10 cars were waiting at the drive-up, but there was only one or two customers in the shop. Thinking this would be quick, I parked and went to the counter. However, there really wasn't a counter. There was a big touch panel and credit card reader. Behind, the "customer interface" were several employees occasionally picking and boxing donuts or filling coffee orders. I did my thing at the "customer interface". The screen displayed a number. About 5-minutes later, a voice called out that number and someone placed my small of coffee on a metal rack.

Back to the subject .... lol .... So the used market is starting to show lower prices, I've been watching craigslist in Denver and also Vegas, Phoenix, Albuquerque and so on..... There are some great deals, but just how far down will they go? I bought a 2019 gs back in february, and I thought I got a pretty good deal on it for 14000 plus more money for extra warranty. But now I'm seeing prices as good or better right in the middle of the riding season ...
2019 gs hp with similar farkles to mine (a lot), 10500
2016 rs 20000 miles .... 8000
2017 s1000xr 27k miles 6000
2020 1250 rs 6k miles for 12000
And there has been, for at least two years, a 2022 r1250RT, white with ALL the 719 kit, and the fancy wheels, very nice bike but still at 22500 US.. And there are several other RS's for sale too in denver ...

If we had more room wessie, think of the bikes we would have ... i just don't have anymore room .... maybe their saving that rs so the OG owner will buy it back ....
If I lived out of town somewhere I would probably get a full on dirt bike as well, A big single likely ....
