RE: Starting Problems. - 2

I didn't mean to scare everyone off ..... I'm not enraged or anything like that ... just thinking better of the whole advice thing ..... Still wiling to share on a relaxed basis ..... what say you? ...

I've updated the batteries on my 1200RS(last year) and the Himalayan 450 this year with the highest output type for both.
Pretty sure they are now both 240cca rather than the standard 200 replacement for the bm and the original RE?
Having had the exide fail over the spring last year having probably gone to sleep(technical term for low use, although on a battery tender!) I went to Yuasa for the RS which I added the fluids at home so know it was brand new with no 'shelf life'
Same story with the original RE himalayan battery which did seem slow to spin and the new items have also quickened the starting but cannot confirm make.
Both bikes run smooth but I do use V Power99 octane rather than standard 95 rated unleaded, have I been fooled in to thinking a better battery helps this?
Maybe a better spark, available power to float all those atoms/electrons tending to lights, electronics and displays!
Was advised the Himalayan runs better and starts better on higher rated fuels and for me the economy on both bikes seems ok.
RS is 68.9 mpg last 2200 miles and 70mpg since service 150 miles ago ( 70 uk = 58 mpg on US gallons)
The Royal Enfield shows 99.9 (US 83 mpg) over about the same 2200 miles.
Different topic but uk mcn tested 95 and 99 octane to compare price/performance and mpg and there was little difference in costs per mile, I'd rather use better fuel and not supermarket cheap fuel.

Well it's good to be able to get that good of gasoline for sure, over here they tell us we live at high altitude and they subsequently sell us 91 octane. And mid grade is 87 and regular is 85. And you have to pay attention to where you fill up as some folks will put the cheaper gas in the premium too .....
With the battery, I just went with the BMW branded AGM. The one in my RS just passed the test during service, on the 29th. an it is original from 22". Still charges just a touch after a ride. But I have to say, that if I was going to take that bike on a long trip I would consider throwing in a new one, as it is four years+ now.
To it seems to me, that the bike should run even better on that high of octane (99). Considering the very high compression these bike already have. I would love to see better gas in these parts ... But at least the newer bikes do run fine on what we have here, but the airhead well, that is another story. I had many problems with that over the years. Carrying additives all the time, retarding timing to top dead center or a little more advanced, lowering compression and so on ...

I had a feeling that we weren't comparing apples to apples ... What ever they have here it seems to work, fuel wise ....

Wessie: I got banned from ukgser, seems I went to a dodgy site and crapped up the computer a little, it seems. The bot on ukgser doesn't mess around, went there next and was banned forever, it seems. After I cleared all retained info from that browser. internet files, cookies etc, I installed microsoft security essentials and scanned the computer and nothing was found ..... so i think it is ok now, but not totally sure. A shame as i did enjoy reading thru the trip reports and giving out likes like candy ..... I had also vowed not to do mechanic advice there too .... But I'm don't think it was a moderator, imo

It takes a lot to be banned from there.
