Members have been warned, you a moderator has been warned, leave your nasty opinions about 47 out of discussions here or plan on hearing a mouthful about the past liberal administrations who've run the US into the ground on purpose for years. The UK charges the US a 56% tarrif on medicinals and pharma's. 45% on scientific instruments. 26% on mechanical power generators. And the list goes on with abusive tarrifs imposed on the US. Far too many countries have gotten away with light tarrifs on their goods imported her while the US has been taking it up the wazoo. That party is ending, time for reciprocal tarrifs to reset the fairness among countries that have been allowed to abuse the US. Japan has not allowed US vehicles to be sold in the their country while the US imports of japanese vehicles amounts to 1.49 million. They've not allowed car makers access to their country. Same with Germany. That's all about to change and 47 is going to open up other countries markets to US and US manufacturers or they're going to suffer greatly for the inequities perpetrated on the US. The friggin party is OVER. 104+K American servicemen died defending Europe from Hitler. If not for the US, you folks in what was known as England would be speaking German. I can start anytime about the politics of Europe and Britain's problems with liberal forms of government. Merry old England still doesn't have enough of a military complex to defend themselves some 80 years later. You blokes will have to be relying on the American servicemen once again if your country comes under attack from about any country. The gloves can come off or left on. That choice is up to a moderator as to whats allowed or not allowed. I've got plenty of material in the wings about Europe and merry old England's heads of state over the last decade. Party is on? or off? Either choice will suit me just fine. The mind is the limiting factor |

I'm going to throw this out there, and please feel free to ignore it. All this market volatility and tariff posturing is a side-show to the real play that is being acted out on the world's financial stage. Some very large, and very over-leveraged financial institutions (i.e., banks and hedge funds) are about to hemorrage some serious financial blood. The leverage taken on by banks and investment houses, especially since the free-money giveaways during COVID, created a situation of extreme speculation rooted in the belief that a Fed "put" existed that would back any losing trade. The problem being that some major banks are deeply underwater in so-called "COVID bonds" that were bought at extremely low interest rates, which have since risen sharply. |

@azqkr You're being a bit sensitive mate, free speech and all that. This is a discussion about tariffs, and seeing as the current chaos is instigated politically and no doubt for financial gain by Trump and his oligarch buddies, then comments about Trump are fair game on this thread in my opinion, afterall his decisions affect everyone. You can fill your boots as far as I am concerned about Merry Old England, would like to hear what you think, we're open minded and can take it. However, I do hear about right wing US comments about the UK and they tend to make me laugh. And England is still known as England for your information. |

BTW, for the most part I tend to get my news from my newspaper which has a nice collection of AP articles every day that provides more detail and analysis about what is going on than does the "click bait" on YouTube, although it does tend to be a day later than the action being reported. For the instant news, like what happened yesterday, I listen to the CBS radio and TV national news and then watch BBC TV later in the day. I do my best to keep political comments out of my posts, but I will admit that it can be tough to do considering what is happening almost every day in the U.S.

While the news media and the public have their eyes glued to the latest "bombshell" announcement, the real story is playing out behind the scenes. And that story is the de-leveraging of 2-3 decades of wanton monetary policy. The clues to what is really happening can be seen in the decline of low-grade corporate debt and the sharp declines in banks and investment company stocks (BankAmerica for banks, Goldman Sachs for investment companies). |
